Alpine White UK F30 - First ten mods done & build journal

Hi all, thought it was about time I said hello and started documenting some of the tweaks I'm doing before I forget what I've done lol!

I bought the car July last year with 55k and full BMW service history. I paid a bit of a premium for low millage as I'm a wedding photographer so thinking I'd pile some miles on but then with lockdown I only did 3k miles in 12 months Getting busy again now though.

Apart from a bit of maintenance I didn’t really do anything to it until recently but have gone to the other extreme in the last few months and fitted all sorts, have to say I really have got a new love for the car now it’s looking more like I want it :-) I like my cars to look OEM so everything I have done is to make it look a bit more fresh and aggressive but still keep looking original.

After

Before

Self installed the Bayern Mods 10.25 Android 10 screen... it only took half an hour and completely transforms sitting outside school waiting for the kids now I can sit watching Bladerunner lol! It would have been quicker to install if I hadn't spent 10 minutes trying to find the optical cables all the YouTube videos show in the harness which for some reason were hard wired into the head unit separately on mine haha!

M-Sport twin exhaust modification. The standard single pea shooter exhaust really does look a bit paltry, much happier now with twin chrome outlets. Simple install, just cut the single exhaust as it comes out of the rear silencer with a guarded angle grinder and then clamp on the new one on, looks much better!

LED's on the instrument cluster dismantled and re-soldered with white ones to change the colour from orange to white (one of my favourite mods, an absolute faff as my soldering skills are not great but got there in the end and love the transformation!)

Genuine absolutely pristine set of 19 inch M-Sport 704m alloys with metallic grey inserts. I picked these up at the bargain price of 750 with a brand new set of Goodyear run flats fitted on the rears and P-Zero's on the fronts. Bought through Gumtree from a chap who was swapping them out from a 2019 330D for some 20 inch Chinese replica monstrosities Sold the old 700m's on Facebook for 400 so only ended up costing 300 to swap!

M Performance front splitter spoiler and black kidney grills from EBay, ABS plastic and my local body shop primed and sprayed it matte black for 30 then I self installed

Genuine BMW OEM matte black boot spoiler, removed from a crashed 330d and self installed

Side skirt extension blades, matte black, self installed

Rear M-Performance diffuser, also picked up from EBay, ABS plastic and perfect fit. Primed and painted matte black by local body shop for 30 and I self installed.

Wireless Apple MagSafe wireless fast charger for iPhone 12 Pro wired in via a 10w adaptor under the glovebox

9: Replaced the iDrive wheel with a fresh looking bigger dial

Reverse camera, turned out to be a bit of a faff to get the cable threaded through behind the dash but for 20 off Amazon it’s a direct swap out with the standard handle and the video signals spot on.

Nice new steering wheel fitted from a written off 2020 320d I found being broken on Gumtree. All the interior in my car is mint with a nice matte finish but the steering wheel had quite a shine and a few scratches so I really wanted to swap it out for an 'as new' one. Very happy with it now.

Last week was Tuesday at Sytner for an interim service (no advisories thank goodness!) followed by a full day in Nottingham for a machine polish and swirl removal so now shes looking super shiny and pretty much perfect :-)

Brand new genuine leather M Sport gear knob and gaiter as the original had a bit if a shine

Rear half windows tinted

Done

10.25 Bayern Mods Android 10 Falcon Screen
19" M Sport 704m alloy wheels
Front matte black M-Performance splitter
Black kidney grills
M Sport twin exhaust conversion
Matte black M Performance side skirt blades
Boot lid handle reverse camera
Matte black rear M Performance diffuser
New M Sport steering wheel installed to replace shiny original
New M Sport gear knob and gaiter, nice and matte to replace the old
Wireless Magsafe Apple fast charger
iDrive controller dial upgrade
Change the orange dash LED's out for white
M Sport boot spoiler
7 hour detail... swirl marks removed!
New OEM bonnet and boot badges

Next up on the to do list:

Key badge replacing
Depot LED Headlight conversion
M Performance/Brembo big brakes

That looks absolutely gorgeous mate - the exact position I'm hoping to get mine too! Did the car come with the front splitter already installed? I've had a mare trying to find a reasonably priced gloss one....

what's the difference between arctic white vs mineral white vs alpine white? to my untrained eyes, it looks similar to alpine white.

Thank you mate, sorry just noticed I described it as front lip but it was the full front splitter I fitted. I went matte black so just got the one with the best feedback on Ebay and had my local bodyshop prime and paint it :-)

Love what you've done so far and the pics are great too. Look forward to the white LED swap out as I'd quite like to do it to mine. Having driven mostly modern Audis, the orange back light seems a little cheap looking in the F30.

Thank you mate... yeah apparently its about 20 LED's to desolder and re-solder so not looking forward to that

The soldering doesn't bother me so much ( worked at an electronics / PCB manufacturer for years when younger) its the taking apart of all the dials that worries me in case any clips break and I get an annoying rattle

but I suppose the creaking door seals will drown that out - another thing on my to do list lol

LED's and my solder turned up this morning so it was time for the instrument cluster swap from orange to white.

Well this was a slightly nerve wracking mod, the LED's are absolutely minute, I'm no soldering ninja, my cluster had a mechanical cruise control system covering the speedo LED's which is not mentioned in any of the guides and the four LED's around the speedo needle are pretty tightly packed in so were a bit of a faff but its done and I love the new look, so clean and looks so much sharper :-)

The four speedo LED's packed in quite tightly!

Nice ride and mods.
The LED swap job looks like something I would never attempt. I'm more ok doing mechanical DIY as opposed to Electrical
Are you lowering it?

Yeah 100% agree, I didn't enjoy it, especially when mine looked completely different inside to all the tutorials on YouTube lol... I had a cruise control wheel, an extra motherboard mounted on the back and all the screws were in a different place! Got there in the end though and once you have done a couple of LED's you get pretty quick, only took an hour all in :-)

I've ummmed and ahhhhed about lowering but to be honest the gaps not that big on mine, especially with the 19's and we do a lot of family European road trips around France and Holland so with the five of us in it, a full boot and a roof box I think I'm going to leave it stock :-)

Haha... Thanks, I'm already on it mate, I've bought a mint climate and CD control panel to pull apart for 20 off eBay so I can have a crack at all the orange LED's and take my time without having to remove the one in the car for now :-)

Fair point. Is yours xDrive?
Mine being xDrive the arch gap drove me nuts, so I lowered it.
Slippery slope, as I want to add spacers now too. But mine is the family car for long haul trips up and down the country, so I'll carefully consider.

Your 704's looks great on the white!

New steering wheel day today!

The interiors absolutely mint and still has a lovely clean matte finish but the steering wheel has ended up with quite a shine and the previous owner obvious either had very long nails or a lot of studs on their jeans looking at the scratches around the bottom.

I've had a search saved on Gumtree for a few months and managed to grab this mint replacement last week from a 2020 320D with original unmarked matte finish and as new plastics.

Had to swap the controls over as it didn't have cruise control. So much happier with it, it was the one thing letting the car down on the inside and it was staring me in the face every time I got in lol! Didn't realise just how bad it was until I saw them side by side, especially the plastics around the M badge :-)

Also did all the seats with Dr Leather cleaner and protector so everything is looking and smelling nice :-)

and new bonnet badge fitted :-)

Another cosmetic upgrade today, brand new genuine M-Sport gear knob and gaiter from Sytner this afternoon... I didn't realise how shiny the gear knob was until I fitted the new matte leather steering wheel

Can't believe how hard it was to pull off!!!

Rear windows all tinted today... 15, just slightly darker than OEN tints, lovely job, picked kids up from school and none of them even noticed it was significantly darker in the back seats

I also set off one of those Aircon fresheners so it smells very... erm... citrussy now :-)
