I'm on about the cable which doesn't require you to open the ecu the first time and remove tprot etc by bench flash. Thus read/write first time without opening the ecu up that cable is circa 1.5k and is already just come out. Last edited by Ajs_435d; 12-07-2017 at 05:48 PM.. |

It's just software improvements then.
Same as any other slave locked tools. Either way it's good the obd flash from fresh is a thing now. Should mean cheaper better remaps in the coming years |

Now that ECU tool tuning companies are figuring out the protocols, checksums and encryptions etc, they can now access the ecu via obd. It's much better because ecu out takes time and that costs money, and ultimately it's risky as the ecu can easily be damaged. That said an obd write could be damaging, so you might still remove the ecu and access via obd pins on a bench where the power supply is perfect (no rises/dips etc as car shuffles power modes, lights on/off, iDrive on/off etc) It's still easier and less risky than opening the ecu up and using bdm pins on ecu itself! |

Our remaps are exactly the same as dyno graphs listed its just a different flashing method as you outlined above. For us it just means less time to do the cars so we can lower our prices slightly. We had no problems opening and flashing ECU's as we have been doing this before OBD tuning was even a thing. |

Faffing with ecu out and glue/seals and warranty concerns though... not ideal.
OBD is what BMW use to tinker with their own ecus so that is the way to go imo. Ultimately we're tinkering with a few 1s and 0s so anything that lets us do it cheaper, faster and less risks is good news :-) I'm looking forward to taking a look at some binaries for this engine. Finding the EGR and DPF switches would be interesting :-) |

For us less technology savvy. Can you please explain how this would work? I understand that this now means you can do remap via the OBD as opposed to removing and dismantling the ecu Does this mean you send out a hand held device with which one can use to iupload the map as required a bit like the super chips bluefin ,or is it more of a simple cable that allows remote access. Thank you.

Lol, how long till a win10 machine updates during a write haha :-)
Also BMWs turning their ignitions to various power usage stages complicates matters wrt battery drain over time. If you get a bad write can you boot mode write on bench easily via obd? |

That's great to hear!
Much more reassuring then, buying a DIY cable and having you send files across! Ie, customer can easily revert to standard for dealer visits etc. |

I would be interested to compare my DTUK 3 channel box against your OBD remap on your rolling road using my car
Be interested to compare the results, same conditions, same car, no excuses. If the map proves to be better I will buy one. Are you up for it? |

Look forward to seeing the results of this! Fair play to evolve for accepting the challenge...but I reckon you might be lighter the cost of a remap when all said and done

Agree fair play to Evolve for standing by their products. I hope they don't try and tempt me with anything else or it may be an expensive trip. |
