2015 328i GT Cold Start, Dash is a Christmas Tree

The northeast (USA) got hit with some wintry mix/cold weather this weekend, but nothing crazy. Temperature dropped from about 38F earlier to 24F currently.

However, when I just started my 2015 328i GT (22,000 miles), I received multiple warnings including, Airbag/restraint system malfunction, transmission malfunction, and hood open (it wasn't). After about 30 seconds of running I turned off the car and restarted it. I received a warning about the airbags and hood being open again, but the transmission warning went away and was replaced by the check engine light.

Any thoughts on what the issue could be? Thinking water found its way somewhere it shouldn't have and froze?

Also, recommendations on whether I should drive the car?

It's my daily and my other vehicle has summer tires on it and I don't get MLK Jr Day off. Could this all be a fluke?

I guess it's possible, but my current commute is a little over 30 minutes, so I would be surprised if that isn't long enough to charge it. I guess the cold could drain the battery, but it is relatively new.

I got into the habit years ago of putting my car on a battery maintainer overnight whenever the temperature drops below 20. With the Bimmer it's more important than with most cars, because there are electronics that are always on. IDrive and the various control modules are really cranky when they don't get the voltage they want, and when the battery is low the system diverts power from them to what is considered the most important function, the starter motor.

The car is at the dealership (it's CPO and was coming up on a service date anyways) I'll update when I hear back.

I believe all the codes you got would have come from the FEM, front electronics module. A low voltage to that module could trigger warnings from a number of items controlled by it.

Got a call from the dealership yesterday, the representative said that the technicians ran some tests and said it was the instrument cluster, have to wait 10 business days to get a new one in from Germany.

I had that issue happen once with my car but after a few miles of driving around my neighborhood at around 20 mph, the warnings except for CEL went away. I then pulled the codes from the CEL and they were all nonsense from what I could tell. The codes were cleared and they never returned. The issue never recurred, and it has been over 2 years ago that happened.

Once lit the CEL and some other warnings won't go off even if the fault no longer exists, assuming it ever did. You have to clear the code that set it off. It's worth having a diagnostic tool with code clearing ability for just that reason. My experience:

Dealership ended up replacing the instrument cluster, as they said they would, and reprogrammed it (because they noted all units were displaying in metric after installation).

Interestingly this has also seemed to fix my issue related to the driver side heat only working when set to 78 degrees and above. Link to thread describing that: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1548216
