Anyone gone from 330d to G30 530d?
I'm contemplating switching to 530d tourer from my f31. I had been looking at 540i but I'm now doing 20k miles a year and it doesn't make sense.
I've had several good offers with decent spec and M perf kit. Which is a must for me. Also considered a 435d but it's just not different enough to what I have. X3 30d was on the list but deals aren't as good. With the right spec the new 5 is a much nicer place to be than the 3. Anyone made the switch? Interested in opinions |

I do 20k miles pa, none of it is business and I'm more than happy with my 340i.
So it costs a bit more, it's just a damn sight nicer than a diesel. My last car was a 330d and the engine noise pissed me off. Don't discount a petrol, fuel costs won't be a huge amount extra and for me, a nicer engine beats range and fuel cost. |

F30 330d to G30 530d. The ride even on 20's is very good with non adaptive and run flats, figure that one out? Fantastic engine more torque than 330d and very refined for a diesel that is... Technology, comfort, performance and great handling for such a large car...what car of the year 2017! Feels much more premium that the F30 imo. I looked at 540i but only does high 20's to the gallon...so 530d was perfect for me.

Gone from F31 335D to an F10 530D and it's brilliant. Even the HK is better!! Only minus is lack of grip without FWD but everything else is a plus and I've done 23,000 miles in 13 months in it and averaged 46mpg :-) G30 should be even better.

We got an F15. The G05 is out now which I'm sure is better than he f15. But the one we have is floaty and the tech is 'last generation' - better than the f3x but nowhere near as good as the GXX generation tech.
There's no doubt about it that the g30 is superb to drive- we are 14 months in and it doesn't wear off. The x5 feels bigger and heavier and bouncier but even if the drive is identical in the g05 (which I doubt) if that doesn't matter to you the tech will be on a par if not more advanced than the g3x. If the drive is important to you then you'll not be able to beat the g30 I reckon unless you go into the M range.

Personally the active cruise and steering control is a must for me. The surround cameras and Parking assistant is extremely useful too. Also Apple CarPlay if you're an Apple person. But that one tends to be like marmite. Here's my build thread: https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1364337 Finally remember that the dipping mirrors don't come with the anti dazzle folding mirror option anymore. I think it needs electric seats or something... but if you get the surround camera option that gets less important anyway.

Active cruise takes a lot of stress out of busy motorways. That's about it if I went minimum spec. Plenty of other options I enjoy, but I'd lose those two last as I use them every journey. |
