Right. The engine was always noisy, but not bad at all in the cabin. In doing work on my car I've noticed that the sound deadening material on the interior is literally twice the thickness of any car I've had before, so that of course has something to do with it. At speed it's as quiet a car as I've ever owned, much quieter than most.
The noise difference standing outside the car with the hood opened versus closed is major. After hearing that racket the first time I too thought it might be a problem until I searched it.

Must be the GT. One of my biggest complaints with my F30 is the road & wind and injector noise.
