mpe flap lubrication

Pretty cold this morning, flap from my mpe won't open at all.

I can hear the actuator trying to open/close the flap. I'll have to look at it eventually.

what would you recommend to use to lubricate the flap by the outside of the piping?

thanks.

I dunno about grease... maybe a high temp silicone-based lubricant that you can get in a spray can.

Hmm maybe this is why I get a rattle from the muffler on cold mornings? But not all the time.

I used to have a cold start rattle from my exhaust flap when my car was completely stock. It was REALLY loud sometimes. I took the car in for other warranty work and they said they fixed it with a software update. It went away shortly after and hasn't come back, as surprising as that is.

I went with jigaloo graphite. future will tell if it work great. If not, my garage is full of other stuff that might also work well.

the specs of the jigaloo graphite seems promising.

When did you get that software update?

Eh, depends. I wasn't tuned at the time, so i wasn't really worried about it. It did completely reset all of my settings in the iDrive, seat memory positions, etc, which was annoying. I was honestly surprised it fixed the issue, since i thought it was mechanical.

If you are tuned and/or have a lot of custom coding done, probably avoid the dealer software update. Also, make sure your rattle isnt a mechanical issue.

The problem I'm having is the actuator sometimes doesn't open the flap all the way. It doesn't apply enough force to open the flap if that make any sense.

That sounds more like a mechanical issue than a software one - like a worn out actuator motor, binding flap, etc. If you already tried lubing it, you could see if you can disconnect the actuator and move it by hand to get it moving freely.

well, -20°C this morning.. same kind of issue. more rattle also. didn't have the chance to look at it precisely. I begin to suspect that maybe the pin between the actuator and the flap is maybe deformed. caused by each time it try to open/close the flap when it is stuck.
