Generally those small Japanese cars are pretty reliable. They are, as you mentioned, cheap to insure and easy to maintain. Hybrid cars don't exactly benefit if you do more highway driving than city driving. I don't have any personal experience with Korean cars, they must have improved by a lot over the last few years. If you consider Prius C, why not Yaris? It does the same or better on gas mileage especially when you consider a lot of highway driving.

I say test drive them all. At the speeds that your dad drives, you will lose fuel economy in any car. The one thing that stands out for the Prius C is the potential to get great gas mileage at a relatively cheap price. I don't think you can go wrong with a Mini, Fit, Yaris, Civic, Corolla, Golf or any other compact cars that can achieve 40 mpg on the highway. GL! If you have any questions about the Prius C, let me know.

I test drove a Prius C at the auto show last weekend. I was actually surprised at how smooth and comfy it was. Even at 46mpg highway you're still getting nearly 10mpg more than the Hyundai. As was mentioned, anything over 60mph and your hwy mileage is going to suffer, no matter what you drive.

The hybrid drive doesn't really have a drawback on the highway. At those speeds it's operating just like any ICE vehicle. Just in the city it can use the electric drive to get your momentum going, thus the better city MPG.

For a commuter with that many miles per day, you're going to have a hard time finding something that will get better MPG than the C. A TDI would get more mileage, but as you said, will have a higher entry cost, and cost only slightly less in fuel with the premium price of diesel.

Anything but a prius. Forget those official numbers man highway driving you want a car with power. They get better gas mileage since your not flooring it to keep your speed up. I say given your situation get a hyundai.

dad just stopped by another Hyundai dealer. Without any negotiation they gave him a price of like 19700 out the door... Other dealer said 21500....What a difference. He also had a friend that is a sales manager for hyundai so he's going to taking to him last And see what he can do. .

I think he's leaning toward the elantra

i would really look at the new civic, I know a lot of people who has the prius and they love the mpg. One guy put 32k miles in one year. if it's commute and you want something then it's for you. Personally i would get the Civic
