The whole concept of the crossover hatch plays against good styling. You simply cannot make a hunchback look good! As they say, lipstick on a pig.
It's going to be a challenge to sell this car to most on exterior looks I guess. In north america it really is a niche market.

I know customers who bought the 5 GT who absolutely loves thier car, and onlookers would absolutely hate it.

I guess we will just have to wait and see how the actual 3 GT will look like when it is unveiled.

An acquired taste, but that thing would haul down a bad, rutted dirt road and other than the noise, it rode like it was on smooth pavement. The Citroen actually had a longer wheelbase, and the GT's is pretty long.
Agreed, the GT is best enjoyed from the interior.

I think the GT looks great on the exterior from some angles and for those who hate the looks can think of it positively... it is a form of theft deterrent, you can feel safe parking it anywhere knowing almost no one wants to steal it.

Just a thought.

LOL!!!

I know a guy that leases a 5 GT. The interior by far is the best part of the car. It's beautifully made and roomy as hell. But the 5 GT is not really a 5 at all, it's a really ugly 7. (barf smilie never gets old!)

It's built on a 7 chassis AFAIK.

The GT has 23mm (nearly an inch) more headroom in the front, the door opening is taller so it is easier to get into and make use of that extra headroom, it's wider, and with the longer wheelbase (over 10cm longer), that equates to more legroom. Differ all you want, you're wrong. I was wrong on the rear headroom, though, it has 2mm less than the touring. But, the GT's seats in the rear do recline and move forward and back, so that number is variable.

I was arguing your point about headroom, hence I am not entirely wrong. No need to get defensive.

I've been seeing A LOT of 5er GT's here in Toronto, oddly enough I was reading this thread this morning and I happen to park beside one. I can never get used to it and don't understand it at all, but looked inside and the interior is pretty nice!

I don't sit and stare at the outside...it drives and looks fine from inside. I, and other GT owners get a lot of thumbs up from non-BMW owners...sort of like the Porsche people hating the Panamera or the Cayenne...just not true Porches. Same thing happened when the X-series was introduced.

My experience with it is it fits me and what I want it to do while the sedan doesn't nor do the X-series. Looks are nice, but secondary to function, for me at least.

I wonder if the 3 series GT has a longer wheelbase than the sedan.

It looks like a fucked up 3er sedan, with ridiculous tailights and its roof pulled up...the spoiler is nice though.

I love the Malibu Maxx...it wasn't THAt ugly, I think of it as more or less a wagon. The slope of the back window wasn't as flat as this thing is...but the X6/5GT/3GT thing is The Audi A7 is the only slopeback, so far, that did it right...the Panamera isn't TOO bad, though.
