whining noise from accelerating

chaps,

this is chapter 2 of my previous thread; 'whining noise on deceleration'

New evidence and this all might seem like i am whining on but in fact its car that is still whining. So the noise is now more evident (or my hearing got better) under two key conditions:

1. when car is driving or reversing - at lower speeds the whining is more evident than at speeds over 30mph but still can be faintly heard
2. when car is stationary in neutral and if i rev, especially between 900 - 1700rpm the whining can be heard and if i hold it steady at same rpm the whining noise is constant

I am pleased that gearbox has been ruled out.

i have made audio clip: https://clyp.it/oazauc4o

your thoughts please? i am going to get it booked in with an indy but feel lazy at the moment and wonder if i am at risk making matters worse and it need more urgent attention than i like to.

A quick look around the interweb showed up this where it turned out to be the alternator. Have a listen under the bonnet with the engine running.

Sounds like a similar issue I had in mine: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1413677

Although yours is far less audible. It was the alternator in the end.

i thought i will update everyone interested concerned. I have had very good experience with BMS Surrey (Leatherhead).

The whining is normal noise from turbo and the air pressure. I was explained that with petrol turbo is different and it has flood gate which lets out excess air pressure resulting in quiet operation of course until you floor the pedal down.

Right well i am gonna go on Google plus and add another 5 star review for BMS Surrey, guys did some other checks and were very friendly and informative.

Don't think so, all turbos have a wastegate otherwise they'd never come off boost, on newer cars its controlled electronically whereas in the good old days it was under vacuum.

My 320d doesn't whine, is it like a police siren noise?

Some update after I went to see Lee Shannon, we narrowed it down to AC, soon as you turn it off this noise goes away. Any idea or similar issue guys?

We going to try regas first as the AC does make other noises that relate to need for regas, don't think the car ever had it and it's 2014 with 39k miles.

If that doesn't solve it than start looking deeper.

Post BMW F30 makes noise when accelerating

Hey Guys! My first rims posting on here.

Having a problem with my bmw 318d m sport auto. When I accelerate theres no noise, but when I accelerate 30mph+ and then take my foot off the accelerator, I hear a whining, buzzing sound. Its really hard to explain, but anyone having similar problems??

Thank you.
