Will disabling the rear speakers mute the rear park sensors?
Hello,
I'm planning to add an aftermarket hifi system to my base audio F30 330e (2017) - due to various reasons I can only amplify the front speakers - since I'll switch the HU to HIFI mode (line level output, no EQ) I'm guessing the rear speakers will be disabled/very very quiet - will this impact the sound volume of the rear parking sensors? Do I have to amplify the rear speakers too? |

It's going to compromise the system. My hi-fi system sends the audio information to the appropriate speakers so you can hear as well as see on the screen where and how close obstacles are. I find that the audio is more important than the video when judging how close an obstacle is. I wouldn't want to be without the audio warning from the rear speakers. Besides, how is having no rear speakers an upgrade?

This was a technical question, where do the rear parking sensors (PDC) output their sound to? In some car there are dedicated (very small) speakers for that - in case the HU is off - I want to find out what's the case in the F30 LCI. I'm thinking of skipping teh rear channels for now to save on amplification |

I've done this to mine.
The H/U rear output carries the parking sensor noise. The front channels carry the subwoofer and warning dongs. Coding the base stereo to HiFi doesn't affect this. If you're not amping the rear channels then my advise is to keep the rear feeds as they are.

If I leave the rear channels as they are (connected to the HU) but change the coding to HIFI it would low level (2V?) signal to the speakers, will taht be enough to make them 'sound the parking sensors'? Thank you! |

In short, yes.
All you're doing by coding the base stereo to HiFi is levelling out the EQ, so you're effectively sending more bass to the rear speakers. The volume and power to the speakers won't change.

HiFi outputs are low (line) level. Volume will drop considerably compared with the Stereo high (amp) level.

After coding I had normal high level audio going to the speakers which I then fed via an amp to my speakers. Sound is much improved.

I'm facing a small problem that I posted on another post.
I installed an aftermarket amplifier ESX 4240dsp. I have base stereo and i upgraded the front speakers. The problem is, the rear parking sensors are really low now. Can't eve hear them. I tried to coding to hifi, but ended up with no sound on the rear .. Any help? |

Have you got the PDC sound turned up? Stick the car in reverse with everything running and manually turn the volume up on the radio, this should turn the PDC volume up without affecting the general volume of the radio.

I already done that.
What happens is the front PDC sound gets way to high while the rear PDC sound remains very low. I really don't know what is happening. Also if I go to sound settings on the car and choose only rear speakers ( this setting F------|------R ) there's no sound, if I put that setting in the middle where is supposed to be, the sound is normal again. On the amplifier, everything is normal. I set it to 4ch with speakers in fullrange. There's really something missing. I must say, the front speakers are FOCAL with tweeters. and rear speakers are STOCK. Will that be a problem? |

Sounds like there is no rear channel sound going in to the amp and that it's made up from the front. You should be fine with the standard rear speakers being in, but I'd be tempted to connect the rear channels from the head unit straight to the rear speakers, bypassing the amp, to see if the sounds is coming through.

The Base system is 4 channel as the front door speakers are wired through the subs, but I take your point. I'm more interested to know how it changes if he wires the rears straight from the head unit.

The ESX-4240dsp is plug and play. The amplifier came with the quadlock adapter.
I will see if I can do the bypass option, connecting them directly to the head unit. I'm sorry if I can't explain better but I'm kinda new at this and it confuses me a bit. |

I have the exact same problem as you. Rear PDC barely audioable. Base stereo (CIC Professional) with aftermarket DSP, new front speakers and subwoofers. Did you manage to sort this issue? Really appreciate any help/tips. (X3 20d F25 2011) |

What amplifier is your rear speakers running from ( aftermarket or factory ) From your idrive to dsp are you feeding front inputs or front and rear inputs ? For context the rear PDC sound is sent to the idrive rear channel amplifiers. If you don’t have the rear inputs from the idrive going into your dsp and aftermarket amplifier you’re not going to hear the pdc. |

Hi.
Thank you very much for responding. I have Audiotech Fischer Match UP 10 DSP (10ch amp with dsp built in). It came with a plug and play quadlock harness adapter where all speaker channels are sent from head unit to the DSP/AMP and then back to the speakers through OEM speaker wires. The subwoofers are connected direct to DSP/AMP. Front PDC works fine. When active PDC warning sound is normal and adjustable in the iDrive tone PDC setting. I believe itÂ’s independent from the music volume control. If I turn the music volume up it sounds like the PDC remain at the same level. Rear PDC warning sound is very low. I have to concentrate to be able to hear it. If I turn the PDC volume up in iDrive to max I can hear it a little better but still very low. When playing music all speakers work. |
