Hi all, bit of a thinker this one.

I'm 23 months into a 48 month pcp on a 440i. The GFV (which I'd intended to pay) is £15950. Current trade in value hovers around the 24k mark as of today.

I realise there is a new model (divisive as it is) that will start to sell, but what's the thoughts about that GFV? Think it'll be worth any more than that via trade in or private sale? I happen to think it's probably about right based on BMW algorithm but I wondered if anyone in the know has a view or past experience? Anybody settled a 440o recently?

Should that read 48 month pcp? It's anyone's guess really, no idea where we will be in 2 years time. Used prices are inflated at the moment, you would expect that won't last indefinitely.

If you approach PCP on the basis that you will have £0 equity come GFV time then you won't be disappointed

What do 4 year old, mileage adjusted 440i sell for just now?

Surely with all that's going on at present, it is anyone's guess where prices and values will be in 2-years time.

Having a package with a GFV, may be a very good thing, like it was in the financial crisis.

Agree, that's the best advice anyone can give at present.

I'm settling mine next month it's a 66plate fully loaded 16.5k. For me it was a no brainer to keep.

Makes sense.

I'm sort of sitting on the edge. Working from home for the foreseeable and have done since March. Don't want to give the car up, and I can continue to own it and then pay the gfv (no way it'll hit the agreed mileage), but if I can't drive it for a while do I maybe sell it? Seems right now I could sell privately and get very close to break even, but trade in would probably be a couple of grand neg equity (could have been worse but was a great deal!)

I doubt it'll be worth more at gfv time but I don't think it'll be much less either.

My old 17 plate 440i gc with mppsk and with 21k on the clock is currently up for sale at £24.5k. Not sure if that helps you? I chopped it in for £22k.

It does thanks. I've had an offer via wizzle of 25k, and my settlement is 27400... I only put a 500 deposit down so that explains a chunk of the gap.

Private sale would garner more but not sure who's buying right now for a car like this! I'm probably going to keep it unless I get a great private offer.

Plenty must be buying right now or dealer used prices wouldn’t be so buoyant. A lack of supply is helping, but if there wasn’t demand as well it wouldn’t matter.

It’s a game of patience selling privately though, a smaller number of buyers are willing to take that route.

GFV is only £11.5K, never keep a car past 3.5 years but already thinking it might make a lot of sense at this sort of money and less than 60K miles, plus I like the car/engine

Yup. My gfv is just under 16k, and I always intended to buy it outright, but I'd have to pay another 26x£460 to get to that point which is a lot of money if its not being drive. Its done just under 15000 miles and probably only 1k of that since march (and that's only because it did the North Coast 500!)
