Advice regarding Price Negotiation for 330i LCI Sedan
I planning to purchase a 330i LCI Sedan in the next few weeks. Undertook a extended test drive of both M Sport and Luxury Line recently. I was quoted the following price of $90,300 from the dealership for the following specification.
Luxury 330i LCI Sedan 18 inch wheels 225/45, (more comfortable ride, less risk of tire damage and better fuel economy) Metallic Paint Innovations Package (Active Cruise Control, Parking Assistant, Convenience Telephony) Visibility Package (Adaptive LEDS, Headlight washer & Sun Protection Glazing) M Sport Steering Wheel ($1,500) retrofitted by dealership Tyre Pressure Monitoring Variable Sport Steering Alarm System Sports Seats, (still debating, felt somewhat confined by the side bolsters) Lumbar Support Seat Heating (front seats) HiFi Loudspeaker system. Any advice regarding negotiating tactics and what would be a realistic price reduction on the above specification? NB. I was disappointed by what the dealership offered on by BMW trade in, since I purchased my current car from their dealership 11 years ago and had it exclusively serviced every year by the same dealership. I added $10,000 of options 11 years ago, which apparently counts for almost nothing at the time of trade in. |

And yeah, you get nothing on options in the long run, it just makes your car more desirable compared to similar models with similar km's. |

The AUS$90,300 was the RRP from the dealership without any negotiation so far.
The dealership normally charges AUS$4,000 for Dealer Delivery Charges (whereas the BMW Australia, according to their website only recommends $2,500). The dealership offered to reduce the Dealer Delivery Charges to $2,000 as part of a corporate programme (BMW Advantage). What would be a reasonable reduction in price (from the initial $90,300) following negotiation? |

I have recently taken delivery of a new 5 series. I received around 15% off list price and I was very happy with that. Don't be afraid to shop around.
As Mike said, options are only of value to you, doesn't stop me getting everything in my cars though. You seem to have forgotten Comfort Access and HK sound off your build! Another option with the steering wheel is to just get the standard Sport one and then change to the F20 M Performance one which is a direct swap, will cost you around $700. H |

if that's the price their going for... I'd ask around. Even a 340i could be negotiated down to mid-high $9XXXX. Anywhere between 8-15% off their RRP should be OK to aim for

Sound very high / would be targeting mid $70's on road for a M-sport or Luxury - when I did mine in early '14 they gave me a high first price like yours. As mentioned earlier get on a Corporate plan (possibly through your work) or if you are going to lease it ask the Novated Lease company to get three quotes - you will get a fleet price. Or last option seek out a Broker and pay them their fee (usually $300/$500) to broker a deal - you will save thousands! Shop around and you could even take a '15 plate or a low Km Demo to get an even better price again - some downsides like options and colours might be limited.

yeah i be aiming for $7X,XXX. i got my 328 for 72k (innovations, m sport pack, sun roof, digital radio, adaptive zenons, no metallic paint though)
For 90k you just might be able to get yourself into a 340i new if not ex demo. there is always 335i as well. should be some amazing deals as they want to get rid of them due to the 340i's i think Hifi, variable sport steering, tyre pressure monitoring is all standard on the 328i/330i |

Combot,
I am very impressed that you managed to reduced a fairly loaded 330i M Sport package from $90,000 to $76,000. You claim that you did this via the corporate package. My dealer only agreed to reduce his Dealer Delivery Charge from $4,000 to $2,000 as part of the Corporate Package. (Note. BMW Australia recommends a Dealer Delivery Charge of $2,500). I specifically asked him but unfortunately the dealership would not offer any further Corporate package discount on the recommended retail price. How did you achieve such a massive discount on a new car? Was the car already at the dealership or did you specifically organise for the car to be built for you? I am interested to hear further details about your negotiating strategy. |

The corporate package, IRC, only pays for the included service plan which is only worth a couple of grand. It sounds like the dealer is trying to the car at full or close to full RRP which, in the context of what has been happening elsewhere on the market, is a really bad deal.
There are plenty of dealers in Melbourne.

Which dealership was it? I have had good dealings with Waverley BMW, not much so on Brighton and Doncaster.

There's also South Yarra BMW, Oakleigh dealership.
I was able to negotiate a reasonable deal on a 8 month old 116i for my son, late last year. Try them all. There isn't any loyalty from the dealership to customers. Buy from the dealer, which offers you the best package. Try to get at least 3 (if not 5) years FREE servicing included.

Going OT a little - I've got to stop watching these threads, with lease rates still low and staying low it's getting harder to tell myself not to change my 328i over for something similar but a little different, like a 330i Touring or 430i GC when it's out later this year! |
