Has anyone tried this on their N57, adjusting the EGR fresh air ratio?

I'm intrigued as to whether this will work on the 30/35d as it did on my E90.

I had the EGR coded fully closed as part of the remap. The engine (30d) is more responsive, revs smoother, has less diesel rattle, and fuel economy improved by around 4mpg.

I appreciate the case for EGR but the effects on driveability and fuel economy outweigh that IMO.

If you had a remap, you can't simply associate EGR closure with all those effects. Remaps change a lot of things, depending on the skill of the tuner.

Leaving everything else stock, EGR operational will get better fuel efficiency, as long as intake is clear. EGR off alone with no other changes will get worse fuel mileage.

I was the original poster of that thread and I saw around 4mpg improvement on my E90 330d N57 by reducing the EGR opening.

That's really interesting, because when turned off from tune (on 328d) the results are different. There is more turbo compensation, which results in the turbo "blocking" free exhaust flow. Of course there are many different ways to turn it off in the tune as well.

If I remember correctly, the newer ISTAs removed that feature, since all the emissions scandals.
Tool32 should still be able to do it still.
