Not sure why you quoted me. But looking at that linked thread, I can't imagine someone would toss a car for an "odd noise". If they did, they had buyer's remorse and were looking for a way out.

You might want to sell your car and purchase some punctuation. :P

Well, after ~3 months of owning a brand new custom order F30, BMW has bought it back. The vehicle has been in the shop for 30 days and there is no fix in sight for an issue that can be reproduced on demand. BMW NA Engineering says it is a model-specific production issue and that a fix is "TBD" for those unfortunate vehicles with the problem. The dealership advised not to purchase another F30 to which I already removed from my future purchasing decision.

To be fair, both the dealership and BMW NA were excellent in taking care of me.

This is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt. As some of you may have read on some of my other posts, I have been a fan of BMWs since I was a kid and my first BMW was a 540i 6-speed M-sport which was awesome. During the 4 weeks of my vehicle being in the shop, BMW let me use a handful of loaners (F10 5 Series and F30 3 Series). So here is what I concluded for myself. Again just my opinion.

First, impressions on the 3 Series: the two 2013 F30s I got to use had 3,000 and 9,000 miles respectively. The F30 with the higher miles squeaked and made so many loud flexing noises that if this was any indication of what to look forward to with my vehicle at ~9,000 miles I would be supremely disappointed. Granted, people probably drove that loaner hard but still it only had 9,000 miles and I can assure you I drove my F30 M-sport just as hard if not harder. I recall a post'er on this message board saying that, after a year (or something), his/her vehicle squeaked worse than a Buick. I know it is not fair to consider these two examples as the outright whole.

Second, impression on the 2013 5 Series: in keeping consistent with the review on "build", the F10 is solid. The impression was that the F10 just had better fitment. Sure I get that it also has higher quality materials. Both F10s I had on service loan were 4,000 and 10,500 miles respectively. Both were dead quiet and I drove them equally hard compared to the F30s.

So I guess the buyback was a blessing in disguise. I concluded to get back into a 5 Series and, for the price of a loaded F30, think it is fair to expect a marginally higher quality product than what I received. This was my first 3 Series and may need to wait a few years to consider it again.

Sad to go.
I think it would be great of you explained what exactly the problem is.

I have a July 2012 build 2013 335i Msport.
It is not quiet in terms of cabin noise level. My Msport is about as loud as my 135i. I was not expecting my 335i to be this loud.
But, it's not a deal breaker, it's just a data point.
Some may not find it acceptable, but it is what it is.

As for squeaks and creaks, I have nearly 10k on my 335i and I have only one area where there is a creaking noise, and it's noisiest when it's cold.
So it's some part rubbing with another due to expansion and contraction due to temp. Still, not a deal breaker as I drive with the audio pretty loud, partially because I like my music loud, and partially because of the louder than it should be cabin noise, which is mostly tire/road noise and ambient traffic noise getting into the cabin.

After posting what you did, I think you've left all of us hanging as to what the problem is with your F30.
Please, tell us what it is, especially since your dealer has warned you away from another F30.

FWIW, search his posts back for 6 months. Not a mention of anything wrong or a question about "anyone else have this problem". Plenty of posts during the time frame from him as well, but again, no mention of an issue which is claimed to be known to factory that they cannot solve and results in Lemon Law buyback.

That is certainly is not a noise issue. Buyback under Lemon Law would be something that makes it unsafe to drive, if it can be driven at all.

And now......silence....while no one else with a F30 knows about this problem that cannot be fixed.

Could it possibly be Limp Mode?

Frankly the entire thing makes me suspicious of the original post.

Such is the state of our English here. We are never taught any punctuations or we never learn.

you said they were excellent in treating you in the buy back process, i might be going through one as well, what should I expect, can you please expand on what they did to you, offered good amount of money for your car and also gave you a killer deal on next one, can you please tell me more? thanks

Bummer man, but it sounds like the outcome is positive. Sometimes you just get bad ones.. I can only speak to the GTI I am coming from but my GTI rattled and squeaked more than any car I have ever had in my life and it drove me mad. I spent the first year of ownership trying to fix random rattles, squeaks, flexing etc. I lined the inside of the door frames with felt tape, I removed the passenger side door panel and lined the inside with memory foam (no shit), I installed little felt pads everywhere.. Towards the end of having the car, a new rapid fire buzzing developed somewhere by the sunroof like a little mouse was living up there or something.. Sometimes it sounded like rodents had taken nest in my door panels.. Broken clips all the time, falling inside the doors, squeaking and crackling around where the glass met the B-pillar on the driver's side, B pillar ticking in warm weather and squeaking in cold.

Ridiculous. I know other GTI owners who report none of those problems. I just happened to get a bad one.

I went through the buy back program. Went from an F30 328i to an F30 335i. Had the first car for almost a year and have had the second for over a year.

Neither car squeaks or rattles (the 328 had the steering shimmy). IMO, the build quality in both cars are what I would consider 'premium'. The F30 is using lighter weight materials ( which may seem cheap coming from a 5 or even an E90), but I think they are doing a great job of balancing performance, luxury, and economy.

Having to go through the buy back program was a PITA, but the fact that they bought it back, that the dealer bent over backwards to make sure I was happy, that the service department put so many hours in trying to get things working, is a testament to BMW.

To put it in perspective, I came from a porsche that had a leaking rear main seal because of defective engineering. It took a class action lawsuit (http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...news/130919830) for Porsche to even admit there was a problem. No recall, no let's go ahead and fix that before it breaks, and no buy back programs (ps.. be very weary of buying a used 2001-2005 911 or Boxster). They made a business decision that it was better - cheaper - to deal with lawsuits and pissed off owners than it was to recall and fix the problem. A problem that cost about $2,500 to have fixed aftermarket. BMW is awesome in my book!

Very funny. I was just about to post a thread about my experience. I just got a call today that my F30 is going to be bought back. I did not expect this so soon. The car has been in the shop twice for "limp mode" and has gone through the same pattern of change fan, relay, so forth. This sucks because I really love the F30 otherwise...I don't want to say goodbye

I'd keep pressing both the service manager and the person in charge of your case. I think it definitely helped that I took the car in THE SAME TIME it was having the problem...hell I went straight to the shop foreman. I didn't let anyone touch my car till he saw what was going on.
