Not much info on the post, so I did look around and found that the tuner made a post on the exact same car a few months back. It looks like it has a stock motor, but I’m unsure. It’s also running a Pure 800 and port injection so it should be making some steam off the bat. But I’m unsure if the cams have been the only thing that have changed since than.

It’ll be awesome to see the results when more people start adding cams to their build. I’m excited to see what cams can really do on this platform, especially what changes will come to the power band. Cams are usually one of the biggest power adders and is a really common thing amongst a lot of the Import and Domestic cars. But with the German cars, you don’t really hear about anyone upgrading the camshafts on their build. I would’ve thought that with a lot of big power turbo cars this wouldn’t be the case. But what I’ve noticed with these cars, is a lot of the power is in the lower/mid range and the torque usually starts to fall off right after where the power and torque meet in the early 5252 rpm sweet spot. But on big turbo cars torque starts to really fall off after 6000 RPM and horsepower is usually steady but goes no higher. I would’ve thought this wouldn’t be the case with big turbo cars, but the emphasis on the decreasing torque curve gets worse. This is probably why there isn’t any B58 pushing past 7000 rpm.

They could have done that on the 7275 easily if they didn’t do it on that 3” downpipe. Especially with cams even that same turbo it would have been 1200+ for sure. With a 7675 and cams that thing will go 1300+ I’m sure. Absolutely bonkers!

Alright, great news. Kelford has finally released camshafts for GEN 1. They made specific versions for GEN 1 (July 2017 and earlier) and GEN 1.5 (August 2017 and later). There are 3 stages available, with their stage 1 supporting 550-750 hp, stage 2 will support 750-1000hp, and stage 3 up to 1200+ horsepower. Cost is the same across all stages. All the camshafts will require a retainer upgrade which Kelford also makes specificly for GEN 1. They even made a sheet to help select the correct camshaft for the specific build date of your B58. No dyno sheets or specified power increase stated by Kelford. I’m aware Skunk2 Racing is currently developing camshafts for the B58 (unsure about GEN 1) so it’ll be interesting to see how they’ll compare to each other once Skunk2 Racing releases their camshafts. This is really gonna help push the platform, and hopefully we’ll see more engine upgrades and potentially more camshaft upgrades coming to the market.

I’ve been trying to do research on these cams, and cannot really find anything. Even though they’ve been out for 3 years for GEN 2, I’m looking around on the mk5supra forum and still can’t really find anyone using these cams. I think the only guys using them are some of the big power supra guys running sub 9 second 1/4. The only thing I could really find online regarding these cams was this [TECH TALK] on YouTube by HP Academy. https://youtu.be/eOm4kr018I4

I'm more so curious about how the power band is affected than the power increase. Or perhaps how the power band could change depending on the specific stage cam you choose. I'd definitely be leaning towards the cam that improves upon top end horsepower and torque even if the lower and mid range suffer slightly.

That makes sense, in that case I’d be really interested in the stage 3 cams. Hopefully we can get a sound clip of how these cams sound as well. Even just a start up would suffice.

Not a dumb question at all. The engine does not need to be removed to install camshafts on the B58. However since the timing chain is in the rear, it will make the install more difficult. You will need specific tools to do the install and a good amount of time.

It seems these cams are doing well on the gen 2 side of the B58. Here’s a post by stimikey on the Kelford Cams. There are pretty big power gains across the whole power band on the stage 2 cam on this 1100whp Supra. He also stated this was done with no extra tuning, meaning there is still power left on the table.
