EGR Recall - Now got a boost leak :( Boost Logs inside for the techies ;)
Hi Guys,
So pulling out of the junction today (First proper drive, 2 days after EGR recall) and put my foot down a little and the engine starts HISSING when approaching 1800RPM+. Im pretty certain it is a boost leak - the hissing is a fairly constant tone but increases intensity when the boost comes in. The car does it in Park, albeit at higher RPM (as the engine is unladen, boost comes in later). The unusal side is that it still hisses for ~1 second after lifting the accelerator. Its been a while since i've had a leak so unsure if this happened to me before. I took the car for a drive and did a full-bore pull, using Torque logging. Unfortunately the logger resolution is low (didnt want to break speed limits so used 3rd/4th). Does anyone familiar with a N57 430d/330d think this looks right? To me, the max boost seems to be coming in far too late - 22.5PSI/1.55BAR @ 2600RPM! Shame i cant see the wastegate duty and requested boost values Edit: Reported this to Sytner Sheffield service adviser that served me for the Recall. Lets see how helpful they really are. Last time i was offered coffee by 4 people in 5 minutes - lets hope this service carries through Last edited by Eddamoo; 02-11-2019 at 02:44 PM.. |

Hi guys,
Quick update for y'all and a warning. I just managed to inspect the car in the relative light and found that the mechanic dropped a bollock and forgot to tighten up a Charge Air (Boost) to Inlet Manifold pipe bolt - see the photos for the problem. I 'could' fix this, but it would be a complete PITA to get to. Lets see how Sytner Sheffield play this - i've asked for an urgent fix (to stop the turbo form exploding from over-boosting) but been given an appointment 1 WEEK away!! I've sent an email to log the issue and express my annoyance with the Service Advisor. Im not normally the 'kick-off' type so any advice would be great |

The plot thickens! Sytner Sheffield "have asked the technician" and now telling me that they only performed a 'visual inspection' so didn't remove the pipe, but they'd be happy to have a look (and probably charge me for the pleasure!)
I have politely informed them a visual inspection is INTERNAL and if it wasn't done, they have performed the recall improperly. I'll be taking it to BMW UK and DVSA if they don't solve this quickly. Not only that, the car was in for a service 3 weeks prior and was told by a different adviser that they needed it in for a day to perform a borescope analysis and hired me a car. I feel sorry for those who are ignorant to technical issues and are forced to believe this crap. I'm complaining for them. |

Hi, what was the root cause for the hissing sound? Was something like this?

Yeah it was like that and still is. Turned out that the noise is common across all 30d's. I remember seeing a few YouTube videos asking about it and a friends makes exactly the same noise also.
