My NBT came with a replacement screen cable which I used to go from HU_Entry to NBT. It is the same colour but supposed to be a different cable.

Emulator came from eBay the second time and cost £199. Came from a guy in Poland.

Haha. If only that were true. Unfortunately I didn't get a refund so I still need to sell the bimmertech one yet.

Just remembered the brother in law runs a garage. He will probably have one in his workshop already I can borrow

On the first attempt I had the car also hooked up to a truck battery
Then the second attempt on a charger with less than recommended current, however AC/Climate off, lights off, amplifiers disconnected etc.
The car will go to transport mode (engine off) and come out of it after 5 minutes while firmware is getting updated, then you might be able to start the car and let the firmware update run However I didn't try it myself. Just in case if you'd think you'd run into trouble.

Thanks. Can't find anything capable of 50 continuous amps for less than £350.

Surely this can't be right. What in the car could possibly draw 50 amps per hour with everything switched off. That is a huge current draw and is three times that of an electric oven. That power has to go somewhere and generate a lot of heat and I can't see where that is in this situation.

I had mine on a 25 amp charger while updating. After a couple of hours, I measured the battery to be almost the same voltage as before. But again, I disconencted and switched off everything possible. It also depends quite a lot on the equipment you got in the car I guess.

Thanks. Not cheap either but at least it's available. I've found the Schumacher model also in the uk but the retail price is £700!!

Is the one on Amazon.com above usable on 240v systems and what type of plug does it come with. I can get that one via BundleBox for about £300.

And how critical is the voltage? Can see loads of 12v ones at reasonable prices. Could I get away with a switched power supply?

I don't know why some much current could be drawn during flashing, but this is what BMW is saying is needed. When E6x first came out, BMW was saying a minimum 40A charger was needed. Then when Fxx came out, they upped it to 70A, and now I am hearing for the latest Fxx, they upped it to 100A.

As for the voltage, it is critical it not drop below 12.6 Volts.

As for the Schumacher INC-700A, according to the specs here:

http://www.batterychargers.com/Produ...tName=94080035

"120/220 VAC 50/60 Hz Input • Microprocessor controlled operation • Extra long 9’ line cord with 20A plug"

And from the manual here on page 6:

http://www.batterychargers.com/Docum...00906-0709.pdf

"This battery charger, with auto line voltage select function, is for use on nominal 120 volt and 240 volt circuits."

Brilliant, thanks Shawn. Looks a lovely product from the manual.

What power cable does it come with? Is it permanently attached to the charger?

Sorry, I don't remember if the power cable detaches or not, and I won't return home from Canada until Friday to look at it.

One of my best friends moved there around 10 years ago. He tells me it frequently reaches 40 below. Yikes!

That's the downside of living here in Canada. It's way too cold at times; so bad to a point where this is a regular thing when you start your car.

Some very good news to report.

The new iDrive Touch controller arrived today from Germany and I swapped my No Nav controller over and it worked first time!! So it is confirmed the UK MY2014 spec cars are K-CAN2 as standard.

All the buttons are working and the NBT is showing the Touch options in the Settings menu, but none of the Touch functionality is currently working. I haven't yet done any coding, could it need VO coding perhaps or require something else?

This is the unit I purchased:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/111249939959...84.m1439.l2649

I also should point out that the on-screen iDrive input wheel makes no mention of touch, only voice.

Did you also buy the Handwriting Module, or just the iDrive Controller?

I didn't buy a HBX but I am not 100% sure if it isn't already affixed to the bottom. The reason I say that it is very deep and there is a different part number on the bottom than the side. It has 6582-9229305-01 on the bottom.

I tried to VO code the ZBE3, but it doesn't appear to have a CAFD file associated with it (see below).
