They should have 340 or 370 cast into them on the back.

Correct. The front calipers will either say "340" or "370/380" in raised lettering on the rear casting. On an F3x, the "340" caliper uses a 340mm diameter front rotor. The "370/380" caliper uses a 370mm diameter front rotor.

(On an M3/M4, the "370/380" caliper uses a 380mm front rotor. And NO, you can use a 380mm front rotor on an F3x because the caliper mounting points are different.)

It's important to remember that "M Sport" is a marketing term that BMW uses many ways, often causing confusion.

The blue front "340" calipers were sold by BMW as M Sport front brakes on the 4-cylinder cars. The front 340 calipers are grey on the 335/340 cars as they came as the standard brake package. If a 335/340 was ordered with M Sport brakes, then the front calipers were blue "370/380" calipers.

Least expensive high quality refinish on these is G2USA Caliper Paint. Check their website. It's a two part epoxy like finish that doesn't chip easily like the factory blue finish. It brushes on and levels out as it dries eliminating brush marks for a sprayed on look.

Visible parts of the calipers can be painted right on the car but you only have several hours of working time once the paint is mixed. So you either need four jack stands or but two kits to do two calipers at a time. TireRack has a great price ~$50 on standard colors. Custom colors are on G2USA website.

Powder coating is more involved and more expensive. All four calipers off the car are completely disassembled, media blasted, powder coated, cured in an oven, then pistons are reinstalled with new seals and dust caps. Expect 1-3 week turn around. Roughly $250-$400 depending on parts and any shipping.
