Hi all
Newbie here with his very 1st BMW. 2016 320i sport.

I have a Q about the Connected app.
I downloaded it,registered and connected it to my idrive.
The info showing on my app is very sparse.



Do I need to do something else to view more info ?
I can log into the bmw connecte drive site with no problem.

Same happens to me. I have a 14 335 with NBT_HU. I get no VIN or milage information on my Galaxy S9.

I have been looking into it a bit more.
Do I need to purchase the Remote Services option ?
UK £60 one off payment ?

To be able to lock/unlock you need the remote services. You get the first 3yrs for free in the UK, and then after you have to pay, you also need to renew for the real-time information if you have nav, and office is also extra. Not sure if it's transferrable if you got yours used, I didn't need to pay for mine, but I bought new.

Also the milage doesn't show up on mine, and only very occasionally it gives you the fuel range. The only thing I really use if the locate vehicle function, and that's usually just to check she's still where I left her.

So annoying that only SOME features work. Has to be something with the HU and firmware because the later loaners I get work 100% with my phone.

For the eDrive cars, the Connected app is great. It lets me pre cool or pre heat the car and set it to do it any time I want. I can send directions to the car's nav right from the app, plus check my battery charge level and usage and also delay a charge until I schedule it. It does a whole lot more and I like how it is integrated with the car.

But the app itself is buggy and a resource hog of my iPhone. And if you don't watch it, it'll drain the battery of your phone in no time. As soon as you start the car the app will start on the phone and attempt to connect to the car even if you have wi-fi or cellular data turned off. You can't minimize it or close it, and it will continue to try to connect even while your phone sleeps. You can't shut it off and it eats your battery.

I don't need it connecting to my car when I'm in my car driving it. Out of hundreds of apps, it's the most intrusive. It wants to work when IT wants to work, not when I want it to. A reload of the app was no help, neither was the dedicated "Connected Drive app Team" at BMW.

I was tired of finding my phone dead, so I just deleted it. Sad, because the OnStar app works much better.

Have to say I don't think it adds much value. I used it once to find my car in the airport car park only to discover it was hiding behind an SUV. The lock-unlock could be useful if somehow i locked my keys in the car. I've never sent a route to it, maybe I might use that someday i guess.

The unlock feature is good in the sunny south. When the car has been sitting in the sun on the driveway & am out of range of the key fob it's nice to be able to ventilate the car & knock down some of the heat.
