Jb4 map 3
Anyone running map 3 "peak of 6psi over stock added (93+ octane)" on a stock setup?
Running the jb+ now and contemplating if upgrading to the jb4 is worth it or go with Active-8 or just stick with the jb+ especially since it's a lease and I don't plan on any other mods. |

Asking the question is answering your self.. Would you like to have more power or not?.. try the devil! haha and the map 3 on jb4 doesn't need you to add DP or else. If you want a plug N play solution without any question, go with active8. If you want to adjust some feature and make logs, go with jb4! If you bought the jb4 brand new and you are within the 1 year free exchange, you should get the jb4!
I have the MPPSK on my 340 and will get the jb4 this spring!

If you have access to 93 you should certainly upgrade ... Power increase is easily noticeable

Figured I would post the map settings
Map Guide as of v8 firmware: Map0: Stock tuning, fully disable JB4 Map1: Additive map with peak of 3psi over stock added (91 octane) Map2: Additive map with peak of 4psi over stock added (91-93 octane) Map3: Additive map with peak of 6psi over stock added (93+ octane) Map4: Stock tuning with CANbus features active Map5: Additive map with peak of 6psi over stock added & more aggressive timing profile for higher octane fuel (experimental, 93+ octane, bolt on modifications) Map6: Custom tuning map allowing both additive (below 10psi) and absolute (above 10psi) targeting Map7: WMI map (boost varies based on WMI additive and map settings) |

340i w/MPPSK and JB4 on map 3. I love it and wouldn't have it any other way. If your going to switch to JB4 make sure you have access to quality 93 octane fuel or you won't see the gains.

You are running map 3 (6 psi additif) to the MPPSK which give you already 2 psi over stock? are you running higher fuel octane than 93? Or maybe meth? if not, did you log because 6 psi over the MPPSK seems pretty hard.

No, it's +6 additive. As in a total of 6 psi, not 8.

Not true... additive means what ever the base target boost (ecu boost) is it will add 6 psi
So if mppsk is 2psi above stock, map 3 yields a total for 8 above stock... Will you achieve this? Prbsbly not unless on race fuel... Timing will retard and the jb4 will adjust its target dynamically ...so when you look at the logs you may see the target not as 6 maybe 5 or 4 etc at some point during the rpm range usually higher end as you don’t need much timing down low to maintain target .... My car runs inconsistently above map 1 with 93 bought here in ny... Map 2 and higher it can not hold target above 5k rpm |

Is map3 tolerable, just that the results are inconsistent or are you better off on map1? |

Yes.. been running for about a year now - MPPSK + JB4
Anything above Map 1 is get timing drops... guess what happens? The computer readjusts and so does the JB4 (I see target dropping)... Drives like crap.. inconsisten Map 3 I have never tried since it will only be worse - and I risk throwing a code. And I do NOT want to leave any evidence. One misnomer is that the JB4 erases codes. It does not.. it remove the check engine light.. the code is stored forever. Map 1 plus MPPSK is like running Map 2 for a stock motor. I get about 15 PSI in the winter and 16 PSI in the summer - Base target is lower in the winter for some reason (but timing is higher). Map 1 I always hold target - rarely see timing drops... Map 2 - one day no issues another cant hold timing. What that means is one day your like holy shit! this is fast.. the other day your like - WTF where did my power go? No change in fuel, etc. Even little change in weather. No reason...(of course there is just subtle enough I dont see but enough for the motor to change parameters.) Honestly I hate the computer in this car - its too variable. Last edited by riskmaker76; 03-08-2018 at 08:12 AM.. |
