F30 Trunk Latch Troubleshooting
The trunk latch on my 2014 328d xDrive will not unlatch using the rear handle, front trunk latch button, or the key fob. My vehicle does not have a key lock on the trunk. I have verified that the valet lock is off. I have checked the wiring for any sign of broken shielding or loose connections. There does seem to be voltage going across the wires. All trunk lighting is working when the actuator is unlatched using the emergency trunk release. I replaced the actuator and have checked all fuses in the back of the vehicle. The battery on my vehicle is 9 years old, but everything else functions fine and I've never had trouble starting the car. Any thoughts on what could be happening? Is there something I'm missing? (To be clear the trunk latches fine, but will only unlatch using the emergency trunk release).

I have since replaced the battery out of misplaced hope that would solve the electrical gremlin. No joy. Probably next step would be looking at replacing the wires? After that who knows...

Hello any luck as to what the issue might be I am experiencing the same thing in my 2015 335i. Valet switch is off and neither the key fob or latch works. Trunk was working fine before. I noticed it one day after remembering I closed my trunk the trunk was swung open. After closing it I realized none of the buttons were working to release it again. Only way to open it was with the emergency cable. Please do let me know if you find fix. I had a local shop take a Quick Look with voltage readings and the tech wasn’t able to find anything.

F30 trunk latch troubleshooting
Same problem as others here. 2015 335i. I also tried replacing the latch mechanism. Wondering if the system gets into the valet mode independent of the glovebox switch.

Do you have a wiring diagram for the latch mechanism you could share? I'd like to test mine. |

i had a similar issue after getting into a small accident a few years back. Turns out the car was just in valet mode, and the dealer fixed it in just a few minutes with a coding tool for no charge. hope that helps

For anyone else struggling with this issue and not being able to solve it... I was unable to open the trunk with the key fob, interior button, or the button on the trunk.
However, I was able to release the trunk using ISTA. So I figured that the primary electronics are fine. The trunk lock switch in the glove box was in the 'unlock' position, so at first glance someone may not think to look there twice. I flicked it back and forth between locked and unlocked a few times and it did not help. So, I decided to use some pick tools to remove the button and unplug it altogether. Suddenly, all of the trunk release buttons started working again, so somehow this trunk lock failed, even though the owner never even uses it to disable trunk access. Pretty interesting. Hopefully someone else finds this and starts there before tearing into the wiring too much. |
