Fuel filter replacement?

Searched and surprisingly there is nothing on this. I'm doing my fuel filter tomorrow and I have a few questions:

- Online posts seem to imply you can disconnect/reconnect the green clip side of the lines without removing the clips. Is that true and what is the procedure?
- Online posts also seem to imply that if you remove the heater/exit side first it prevents fuel from draining back. True or false?
- I have a foxwell scanner with BMW support. Is this adequate? Again, online posts seem to imply that ISTA does a multi-step procedure that the foxwell cannot do
- Or can you just turn the car on and off a bunch of times (not starting, just on ACC) to prime the filter?

BTW the Bentley manual says to undo the heater/exit side first, then "undo" the other side, and that's IT.

So why am I seeing so much doom and gloom online about the "right" way to do this? What is the right way to do this job? I'm seeing lots of things making me superstitious that I'm going to blow up my HPFP if I do the procedure wrong and it's got me nervous.

What car/engine? As far as I know my N55 only has a fuel filter integral to the LPFP in the fuel tank.

For n47/n57 there are videos on you tube. It's a pain due the location of the filter under the car rather than the hood. It requires a some panels and bolts to be un-done. I have ista but I never primed anything just pressed the start button once without starting, I did this a few times and then started the car as normal with no issues.

Don't do this. Prime using a scanner. You don't want the FPFP running dry, they are already fragile

Adding to this, prime the pump multiple times (at least 3). The last time I changed my filter, I ran a single prime ABL in ISTA and there was still air in the line. That first long crank was the stuff of nightmares.
