Well its a nice distinguishing feature that separates the lower model to the higher model.

BMW has a history of nickle and diming its customers. With the introduction of three different lines, I suspect that we can easily spend more on upgrades compared to the previous generation. Yes there is more tech for the new-gen, but at the same time, more features should become standard as the car evolves from generation to generation.

Never mind that from an engineering stand point, an I4 and an I6 both make a lot more sense with single sided exhaust.

Have a look at this render and compare the outline of both the render and photograph and see if you see any simularities?
The Coupe of course will have a unique appearance to distance itself from the Sedan and establish the 4er insignia.
So in some design details you can look at the F30 and some details and think completely opposite. Some F30 design elements are carried over but are interpreted differently on the Coupe. Think of how they can be applied completely opposite from the interpretation on the sedan.

The new 4er Coupe will of course inherit the Coupe bloodline from the 6er which means sleek looks and sportier proportions.
And some characteristics including that "bow"like design feature , strong L-Shaped headlamps and headlamps with enclosed indicators with the 4er bringing in the unit behind the headlight glass and not open like the 6er.

With 3 models scheduled for the 4er - Coupe , Cabrio and Gran Coupe. Brings the 3er family (including all M variants) up to ten models with other concepts under investigation. The excellence of the new 3er family is that it will now be more profitable than before.
The individual model lines will increase profitability as will the flexibility of the modular matrix that underpins these models.

Of course the 4er will mean You will have up to 2013 to debate about this. Intensively...

I think the 4/3 coupe will be a real looker in the flesh. I see hints of DB7 which is not a bad thing at all.

Most Bimmers grow on me... except the Bangled ones and thank the lord we're done with that BS.

Clearly the plastic lower trim is just for testing's sake, and it just so happens to make everyone think it's a Mustang or Nissan Altima Coupe. As it is neither of those things, I added the camo-pattern to the lower body trim to simulate the presence of painted panels. I also did my best to draw the contour of the window according to the Hoffmeister kink using the clone stamp tool. And to further accentuate the non-trunk taillamp piece, I removed the round test-mule LEDs.

Notice also that some body panels are raised. DO NOT BE FOOLED. Those panels are used to cover newly innovated contours and creases. They also make you hate the spy shots so that you're wowed when the car makes its debut.

Almost all 2 door autos designed off a 4 door car do not work well. BMW is no exception. Except for the e30-e36coupes, which I favor over their 4 door counterparts, I prefer the 4 door designs. The 2 doors just look stretched to create the 2 door version and the deminsions seem forced. The E92 is the worst of these.

With all that said I really like this new 4 series basic shape. When they pull off the bloated hood camo and rear mess it may be very appealing. I had wanted a new F30 M3 but this design has me considering the new F32. This seems to be a shrunken 6 series which has always been too bloated.

The 3-series coupe/convertible is, in its least noble description, the bargain grand tourer that is actually too small to be a true luxury 2+2. It competes with the likes of the Audi A5 and Mercedes C-Class Coupe. The back seat of the E92 is under no circumstances the same size (legroom, width, comfort) as that of the E90, and thus we understand that the E92 is not an E90 with two long doors, but rather a car geared slightly upmarket relative to its sedan counterpart, catering each to their own demographic of buyers. The Audi and Mercedes are as well designed upon the same principle.

Don't let the test mules fool you. There are three-dimensional body camouflage pieces that hide the newly designed lines, creases, and contours you'd expect of a proper and up to date BMW. BMW wants to throw you off into thinking this car is a Mustang, an Infiniti, or a Volvo. It could be any one of those with this intensive camouflage bolted on. The only tells are the typical camouflage pattern, the test mule LED taillights, and the wheels that were used unbadged in testing for the F30.

And I agree with you samchoi. The E82 is only almost "right" when it's a 1M. The standard model's tiny proportions yet ostentatiously large eyes and high pitched roofline require the exaggerated wheel wells and front intakes of the 1M.

BMW will offer the new 2er Coupe/Convertible & 4er Coupe/Convertible.

Size increases from the 1er & 3er they respectively replace.

Leave the freaking camo off the dang car.
At least then you can really judge what people may think, and BMW may then have information and time to alter a few things if need be.
Doing the stupid camo while knowing that pictures are being taken is silly.
I really have no idea what they think they are protecting.

Take the freakin camo off so that people can actually see what they may be ordering in the future.
If BMW or Audi or whoever, think that camo somehow enhances a desire for the car, then they have it completely wrong.
It actually ticks me off.

The new 1 series was camo'd and it didn't turn out any better than what people were expecting and the majority hate the new headlights.
If the camo were off and people could see the design direction, then BMW would have had time to alter some of the details resulting in greater acceptance and better word of mouth advertising.

it wouldn't work. Every person has an opinion different than the other, so if bmw is to listen to people, they wouldnt be able to do a design that satisfies everyone. I like the f30 headlights while others might not. I would give bmw a huge headache rather than a surpise design that would save them a lot of remodeling.
