Car looks fantastic

As for the debate around badges and M performance models, BMW have not duplicated names to date

E.g. there is no 135i and no 550d so the likelihood on this logic of an M335i is not high. Given the same platform it's dubious the M performance 4 series will be M435i. However considering the popularity of diesels in the UK we could see M#35d.

My money would be on M340/440i/d as it's better differentiated from standard models.

Personally I don't care about the name, just hope we get a diesel and petrol performance version. If it is going to happen on any range it''ll be 3 and 4 series as they are the most important models in business terms.

Well from that front shot I can see that this one also has the headlight that is connected to the kidney grilles...something that I personally am not a big fan of. Oh well...

Just from the sheer response of this thread you can see how important this car is for BMW. I am liking what I see so far and separating it from its original sibling is very smart on BMW's behalf.

The side vent ahh I have to see how the fenders sit with the car .

On a positive note the vents will provide more air flow around the car and keep lower due to downforce ?

Oh and that little side vent could actually be functional, the front air curtain brings in cool air for brake cooling and the side vents acts as an exhaust for the hot air from the brakes. I will have a look to confirm when I see one in person.

Cool story, too bad that is the ugliest car I have ever seen. And this is coming from someone who finds quite a bit to like about (most) current Lexus design.

How do you know its sporty?

It says "sport" directly above it so everyone will know.

Are you sure its not just there so people can tell its 4 series because its nearly the same size as 3 series?

Well the 4 series cost more, I want people to know I paid more for it!

So maybe that's why that plastic is on the fender? So people can tell its a 4?
+1!

It will be separate alright.

$5k+ separate. For basically a number "4" badge.

Really surprised by all the love for the fender. Looks hideous to me...like it was the last thing they thought of on this car. It doesn't initiate or continue any of the lines on the car. Other than that it's looking good. Looking forward to the full reveal in Detroit!

I have to agree with you... not their best look. Especially the gaping maw. I need to see in the 'flesh-metal' before I axe the idea.

Ever since the is line with its 3-series short nose came out I hoped for a coupe for years only to be tortured by the proportions of the hard top convertible 'coupe' ( FWMOIW)

Seriously, they could tape a turd to the fender and some of the members would say they like it. Certain people have a forever hard-ons for certain brands.

The black vent can pass (although I personally think it looks awful), but I imagine it will be brushed aluminum on modern line and chrome on luxury line.... Which is f*#$ing hideous!! Wanted this car so bad based on previous renders... Now shoot me in the face
