If it is still going to be called the 3-Series Coupe then I agree with you. But if its going to be called the 4-Series then they have more freedom to modify the chassis.

anyone?!?
The tire size is 225/40/R19 - there is no way you can fit that on a 1er.

Exclamation

I took the liberty of roughly comparing some lengths based on the pixel ratios and came up with these speculative dimensions.
My opinion is that these sizes come closer to a 1/2 series than a 3/4 series, supported by various members pointing out the 'tall' guy or smaller car size.

What do you think?

I'm pretty sure it's a 4 Series, given the fact that we have seen all the spy testing photos of the 4 Series coupe and M4, but nothing on the 2er. Why would they have an almost production version of a car that we haven't seen tested yet? And what about the debut of the 4er in Detroit that's coming up? Doesn't make any sense for it to be a 2er, but I understand the speculation that's coming up here.

No need to speculate. It's the 4 series.

Im totally fine with my E92, i dont need an upgrade. an upgrade for me would be to buy a 5 or a new 6 series not another 3/4 series which looks just about the same if you think about it. one just has more sharper edges than the other, nothing too drastic that would make me want to buy one asap.

Too bad it's not a pillarless coupe. Mercedes manages it; why not BMW?

Other than the black fender vent, the new 3 coupe is looking pretty badass... looking forward to seeing the Gran Coupe variant

A B-pillar gives it better structural rigidity, because form follows function at BMW... most of the time.

Also if that vent is not functional everyone at the design department needs to be blacklisted from the automotive industry.

I found this to be very interesting. nearly 30 inches difference from the E92. that's substantial regardless of measuring/scaling or photo lens error. could be the 2 series?

As much as everyone was saying 4-series I also found that interesting. If the wheels are 19" (or even 18") then, to scale, you could get a rough approximation of the total length of the car using the 19" as a scale. I think that's what that guy did and it makes sense. Also the decklid looks to be super tiny, the overhang is super tiny, and the dude driving it looks super huge. Put that together and I get suspicious as well.

But then again we haven't gotten any spy shots of a 1 series testing...

The guy maybe is a bit big but he's not sitting in the seat of car either. He's half hanging out of the window. That'll make anyone look big...

Have you driven any of their pillarless coupes? We had a 2004 CLK from new until last year (over 130,000 miles) and it had plenty of chassis flex and developed rattles especially around the "B pillar" area behind the doors. I'm glad my Bimmers have all had B pillars.

On the plus side, you never really drove that car like a sports car so the floppy chassis wasn't much of a problem and the visibility was tremendous.
