How do you get to that "Version" screen in your pic?

My "Navigation/Settings/Position and software version/Software Version" screen is different so you seem to be on a different menu page (pic attached). Can't find that one on my system.

You are correct in that the described situation of region not showing is only with ID5 and ID6 vehicles. It was actually a change that was implemented as 99% of people don't take the time, or want to have to select the region. This is why during the first 45 days the vehicle automatically looks at the GPS location and maps this to a region.

In ID4 vehicles the region is still visible and selectable via the iDrive system.
Any idea why I still have 2016 map? Version in the picture attached in previous reply. Thanks

Everything is set up correctly for your vehicle in the back end and systems side. So it is just a matter of your vehicle being in the queue for when the update is pushed to it and the vehicle being able to receive the update.

We are also working with the US and Germany to increase the bandwidth of the network for the OTA map updates, as the US is having to same issue and complaints.

Hi Canadian33,

OTA map update will be pushed for 2014 X3 (NBT) also. I still have 2013 map version.

OTA Map updates require the NBT Evo head unit. Unfortunately your vehicle does not have the necessary hardware requirements for OTA.

Hi Canadian33,

I have a 2016 f30 with NBT EVO and just finally got an OTA update this week, but it was to a 2017-2 map version which sounds like it's a year old by this point. Do u know if this is the latest update available for canada or if the queue is like a year long? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have the same situation with mine MY2016 F30. I have watched the status bar from 96% until update completed. Nav system restarted. Map version shows as 2017-2.

A little background about the regions.....Canada is one region. This is very different from the US, where it is broken up into multiple regions. This is why selection of the region manually is redundant as the vehicle automatically determines that it is located in Canada and assign that as the region.

Now in terms of the OTA map update. When there is a new map released the update is pushed out over the air. In the background, vehicles in Canada region are queued to receive the map update. The update is attempted until successfully downloaded and installed.

If you want to provide me with the last 7 of your VIN, I can look into your case further.

Regards
There maybe some confusion ref what update means. After 4 years asking and looking into it, our iDrive gets some updates, but never the map version. That process usually costs hundreds of $ at BMW, or 50$ DIY, with engine running, battery charging, and takes quite a bit of time to upload th installer. All other updates I received changed the Navigation interface a bit, but not the actual map version (e.g. show up a new neighbourhood).

BMW geniuses are a hit and miss, but on average they are consistent on this item: navigation tweaks are not the same as map version update... fo that I went on kijiji.

No map update but I got a "changes to navigation...restart required" or something to that effect. Restarted it and I think an icon changed but no map update (still on 2017-1, on a 2018 Gran Coupe). BMW really needs to upgrade their backend where it can process updates especially if they are charging for it. For a 2018 model, there should be no reason for the map to be significantly outdated.

My 2016 340i came with pre-loaded 2015 maps. Since then the car received two OTA map updates, last one being 2017-2. These are not just iDrive updates as you've stated. It most definitely included new maps since new streets in my subdivision started to show up after the update. Having said that, not all cars are equipped to receive OTA map updates. That will depend on model year of the car, iDrive version and iDrive subscription options.

I can tell you that vehicles with the ATM TCU, and NBT Evo headunit since 11/14 production have been eligible for OTA Map updates. This means that a vehicle can receive up to 4 navigation updates per year for 3 years.

The base map will remain the same, but the car will get delta updates. For example, if your car came with 2016-2 map, and it has received OTA updates. Your map would have the same information as a vehicle that came with say 2017-2.

You can update the base map to the latest version, but this would generally be done at the retailer since the map is roughly 30GB in size.

Hope that clarifies OTA Map updates.

New BMW Connected app is now available in Canadian App store but not in Android Play store.

It is too bad that Remote 3d view is still not available. They are supposed to send OAT software update for idrive so that we can enable this 3d feature in Data privacy settings under My Vehicle = idrive settings.

Did anyone in Canada receive this software update in 2 or 3 days? Please let us know.

Thanks

Although no specifics were given I will provide a quick overview of what we have in Canada and where we are going.

In terms of ConnectedDrive in Canada there is a divide between MY2014 and newer and MY2013 and older.

MY2013 and older vehicles had what was referred to as the BMW Assist Safety Plan. Coverage was for one year from the in-service date, with the exception of the F01 7 series which had 4 years of coverage.

Services generally included:
- Emergency Call
- Teleservice
- Concierge
- Remote Services
- Internet
- Google send to vehicle

Vehicle MY14 and newer are split into two main groups, ConnectedDrive Essential and Professional, with services being valid for either 3 or 10 years.

Essential Services:
- Emergency Call: 10 years
- Teleservice: 10 years

Professional Services:
- Emergency Call: 10 years
- Teleservice: 10 year
- Remote Services: 10 years
- Concierge: 3 years
- Advanced Real Time Traffic: 3 years
- News and Weather: 3 years
- Over the air map updates: 3 years

In terms of apps, we have the Connected Classic app which allows 3rd party apps like spotify to display and be controlled via the iDrive system.

There is also the BMW Remote US app, which allows you to lock your car, honk the horn, flash the lights, locate the vehicle and push destinations to the vehicle from within the app.

We don't have a store but will be launching a local solution this month that will let customers upgrade and renew their ConnectedDrive services.

Where are we going? We are working on migrating our systems to introduce the new Connected App and use the ConnectedDrive store and portals.

Canada is a legacy market, which means we had to develop our own systems. Unfortunately, over the years our systems have become dated and we couldn't keep up with new features and functionality that BMW AG introduced.

The good news is we are moving in the right direction, and there are a ton of new features and functionality that are planned for Canada based on being on the new platform.

Hope that helps.
I am subscribed to both essential and professional services, but still I cannot use the remote service. Do I have to subscribe for remote services too?

@canadian33 Do you know how often the OTA map updates are pushed? My 440 is a 2018 but the maps are still 2017?

OTA eligible vehicles can receive up to 4 update per year.

The updates are incremental, meaning if you are currently on 2017-3, you would go to 2017-4.

So basically the maps will never be up to date?

You can just update the maps without OTA as well.

yes they can , got updates from 2017-4 to 2018-1 and -2 in the same week, you still retain the 2017-4 base maps, OTA does not update full basemap

Would anyone happen to know how to change to metric on the BMW connected app?

The app is working fine for me but I don't want to see gallons and miles!

Check your region setting in your iphone, it should be Canada. The Connected App recognizes this setting and displays the appropriate units based on the region.

Go to settings --> General --> Language & Region.

Make sure the region is listed as Canada.
