Oil Change (More than a year)
Hi All,
Looking at the service history of my used 2014 BMW 328xi, the last time it received an oil change was a little over a year ago, and it's been 11,000 miles since then. My IDrive still says 5000 miles til next oil change. Will the dealership cover my oil change (still in warranty) even if it says 5000 miles since it's been over a year since the last oil change? Thanks!

CBS states oil change every 15k miles... idk anyone who does oil changes in such high intervals. I change mine every 7500.

Since yours is a 2014 , if under 50k mileage, you are probably still cover by the 4 yr/50k Maintenance program. Therefore once a year or 10,000 miles, which ever occurs first. I believe it was in 14 that BMW moved from 15K miles to 10k miles for normal scheduled oil changes. As mentioned, many of us perform our own intermediate changes around 5,000 to 7,500 miles as cheap engine care. To each their own.
Just contact your SA to schedule. |

Mine resets to 10k every time dealer services it. They have covered all required maintenance up to and including my final maintenance at 50k in a couple months.
Currently at 44k. In addition to the dealer changing oil every 10k, I change on my own every 5k. I believe waiting longer than 10k is a bad idea if you own your vehicle and plan to drive it a while. Regardless of what the engine computer says. For the little cost it is to put high end oil and filter in your car a couple times per year... its a no brainer. My oil changes typically cost $40 including a BMW filter and OEM recommended oil. |

What about on my case....2016 f36 new car first oil change idrive light pop up 7980 miles .....now its 13k its about pop out again. It say i have 900 miles left till oil change....but the date say 8/2018. Im going in no matter what because that what the car told me.
One friend told me thats not possible 7k miles then another at 13k....well i told him car is driven city street 95% all the time ....barely use highway. I probably gonna get more oil change out of this free maintenance agreement.. |

Another way to think about it is if you sat your car for 8 hours a day idling, you'd get a notice for an oil change after zero miles (but after some period of time, probably less than a year). |

As a matter of fact: My filter just came in the mail for my 45k service. What you see here cost me exactly $37.99
How can you not throw kits like this at your car at least every six months?! Even if you have to pay a buddy $10 to help out... you'd still be all in for under $50. Not sure why people like to max out their oil life, potentially at the expense of an engine with known timing chain failure. This and a catch can are, in my opinion... the smartest things you can do to protect a DI motor. Edit: 1. regular oil changes (5k) 2. Top Tier fuel 3. catch can Additionally, it has been widely publicized that BMW believes there is a strong correlation between timing chain failure and long intervals between oil changes. |
