O2 Spacer That Works!

I shared this in some Facebook groups but felt it's worth posting here too. This benefits people that don't want a tune OR are in a state that can detect modified tunes and so that person is forced to flash back to stock. I've had multiple FXX B58 owners use this same spacer and it worked for them too. Unfortunately, I don't have data for GXX B58 cars. I've done over 1000 miles with various types of driving. I've also accidentally reset codes while coding the car and monitors set within 1-2 drive cycles.

1. Doesn't cost $300+
2. Tunes don't pass emissions in some states and/or can be flagged as modified. Visual part is easy to find an inspector that doesn't care.
3. For people that find stock power adequate and throw a downpipe on for sound and don't want a check engine.

The straight O2 spacer worked on my car. 2017 340i with catless downpipe and stock tune. Be sure to REMOVE the mini-cat (don't reinstall the cap) that comes in the spacer otherwise it can trigger delayed rich to lean response codes.

Interesting. So I live in NY and run catless and always have an issue passing inspection. I always have to revert back to the stock cat, flash back to stock tune and lock the DME to get it to pass. With this, would I be able to leave my Stage 2 tune in place and just drive it to the inspection and pass because all the monitors are ready?

I believe stage 2 disables the cat monitor so that won't work. Of course you can simply check and see if that's true or not with any OBD scanner.

I'm not sure if locking your DME would be necessary either but just flashing back to stock and using the spacer should be enough.

That's easy enough if true and would make life much easier.

It will work if you don't select the cat disabled check box. The whole point of that spacer is to emulate the catalytic converter.

OK, so I'll try leaving the Stage 2 tune ON and remove the option to disable the CEL and see if it clears up and gets ready for inspection. What about Cold Start CAT heating? I currently have that set to OFF because it's not necesarry, but does it need to be on OEM to run through it's standard process?

I'd just skip all this headache and go for the GESI-cat-integrated DP. It's worth every penny when you're able to safely stay clear of O2 faults plus the car won't smell like skunk fart all the time.

That shouldn't affect the monitor

You're in a phase that I've gone through from my earlier days tinkering with different combo's of spacers to trick that O2 sensor circuit. At the end of the endeavor, I've spent more than the $300 benchmark and got nowhere close unless I simply go for a tune which enables a catless DP circuitry. Anyway, you may get lucky, but I'm more than sure that once you've out-grown the amount of trouble you'd go through, you'll likely go straight to the viable options, albeit defeating point #1. I praise your perseverance, happy motoring, bro.

All good, if it works well for you, it's a blast. I now have grown too old to accept a premium car arriving at stops with that skunky smell exhaust in the back side. Happy motoring anyway, pal.

I'm 44, with this impeccable math logic, you got less than a year to start disliking that catless smell, LOL.

I fitted a GESI cat in between the two O2 sensors, no smell, no fault code. That cat is rated for 500-850 horsepower, and I can say I'm also very happy with the catless-like performance but without the smell; although the cat itself is about 750 bucks, I also paid 150 bucks for a metal fabrication shop to custom fit it in, moved the O2 bungs a bit, etc..

The gasoline smell is pretty stout, I prefer the smell of ethanol.

Well you’re a pretentious fuck if you think everyone should like what you like.

Woa, didn't see that one coming. I'm so glad I'm not a pretentious fuck then. You do you, homes; and have at it.
