335i EWG Pulling Timing

I have a FBO 335i EWG. Charge, boost, 5" FMIC, DV+, Catless DP. I have replaced spark coils and I replaced Bosch spark plugs with Bosch spark plugs gapped at .03. The timing is all over the place and I think I'm getting micro-knock.
Would NGK 2 step colder @ .024 - .022 would solve my issues?

Also is 0.1/0.2 knock a micro knock?

I didn't do WOT because it's already pulling timing in regular driving.

Any advice is welcome.

None of those logs help tell us anything. You need to do a 4th gear pull starting from 2500 rpms to 6500 rpms. But if you are 6speed Manual trans then do a 3rd gear pull. Do some searching in this forum for logging tips. thejeremyman9 wrote an extensive post on how to log and how to read a log. Please read all the information thats available to you and then post some proper logs for us to give you proper feedback.

everything you're seeing is normal. timing is never a consistent thing, its fluid at partial throttle. so during normal driving its going to be all over the place.

so get the thought of something being wrong out of your head and move on to WoT runs and let's take a look then.

For OP, here is my thread/post to read:

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1732327

Give it a good read through, maybe twice, then come back with 1-3 WOT pulls in 3rd/4th gear as described there.

Just a follow up. I got NGK 2 step colder plugs put in (.024 gap). They resolved my issues.

Here's a log Stage 1 91 Octane Bootmod

How can you tell anything from this log? Also, this is stage 1 and the original logs were stage 2? How do you know the plug change "fixed" anything?

I'm not saying they can't make a difference, but want to understand why you think the plug change was responisble for what you are seeing, since most people dont need or even want to use those plugs and a smaller gap, especially on stage 1.

I was getting 0.1-0.2 micro-knock I guess at high boost. In the new driving log you can see I did 4th gear all full throttle to 14psi and I got 0 knock.

Can't do stage 2 because I got my stock cat installed. I will do Stage 1 93 tune tomorrow.

I guess i am just confused because you posted stage 2 logs initially, then posted stage 1 logs later after the plug change, and concluded that the plug change "fixed" the issue? It could have been other things, though? Different gas? Colder IATs? Correlation doesnt equal causation. Also the different stage tune?

I'm glad you arent getting knock just not sure how you can conclude the plug change was the reason when there appears to be several other variables lol.

Yeah i went from standard Bosch gapped at .03 to 2 step colder NGK gapped at .024 like BM3 recommends. I was getting micro knock even at stage 1. If you read from the beginning I got all the details on the plugs.

Also I read thru the forums and nobody mentions microknock and what 0.1 knock means. I'm guessing it's microknock. That's why I'm posting my experiences hope it helps someone.

BM Stage 1 93 Octane tune 4th gear pull today:

Yeah i know what BM3 recommends and the recommendation is, in most cases, unnecessary. Especially for stage 1. But everyone's car responds differently. You still have pretty bad timing corrections after like 4500 rpm so i dont think the plugs "fixed" anything.

Try an ACN map and see if that fixes timing

It's a daily with no knock or 0.1 knock or anything. I'm ok with little pull, I don't track it or do OWT over 1 second since I'm mostly driving at 30 PMH in the city(NYC) or cruising. I don't see a big deal with stage 1. Once I put in a better cat like the Wagner Sport pipe with cat and do stage 2 again, then I will revisit the issue if it comes up. Thanks for all the help guys. Much appreciated.
