Buying first car, good deal? 2018 440i GC

Hi all,

Graduating grad school soon and time to get my first car!

Long time BMW owner + recent grad gives me 1500$ credit towards my CPO car.

In love with the black on brown look. I always thought I'd end up with a F30 but I don't mind the F36.

Mileage: 17,000
Asking price: 36,500

CPO 2018 440i GC

MSport, HUD, professional NAV, HK Surround, PDC, adaptive LED headlights, High beam assistant, back up camera, speed limit info

Really the only thing I hate is the wood finish.

Notes: I am likely going to tune so unfortunately the warranty doesn't mean much. I like this car because I think the low mileage is hard to come by. 35k seems a bit high but it also is fully loaded (unless someone can correct me). Do you think I have any wiggle room haggling with an official BMW dealer on a car like this? Purchase price would be around 35k excluding any fees after the college grad and loyalty credit.

You can always get the wood vinyl wrapped, personally I've grown to like the wood.
Personally if your going to tune it why not just get a cheaper f30 then spend more on the mods, especially if your throwing out the warranty it doesn't make sense to me.

Not gonna lie, does seem like a high asking price but covid car pricing is real.

There is always room for some negotiations.

Used car pricing at the moment doesn't favor the consumer.

This is a question of what's the opportunity cost of waiting and looking for the car you want vs getting this car now.

Regardless of CPO status, please review the entire maintenance history of the vehicle.

I say go for it if you really like the car and its clean, the price doesn't sound too outrageous. As others are pointing out, car prices are on the high side right now.

I got my 2018 340i with 16k miles back in August 2020 just before prices started moving upwards. The car was initially listed for $35k, after a a few weeks of negotiation, dealer informed me that they are increasing the price to $37k but they would honor the initial $35k listing price . I though they were bluffing so I told them I need time to think about it but the listing on their site did change to $37k! I ended up purchasing it at the original $35k price.

If you really like everything about the car then $1k or $2k difference isnt going to be a big deal if you are owning it long term.

Looks like DSC pulse generator was replaced. is it my "right" to request a copy of all the service records for the car if I am in serious talks to purchase or do I look like a pain in the ass?

Requesting all services records simply makes an educated buyer. You are the one parting with your hard earned money. No need to worry about anything other than being well equipped to make a buy-don't-buy decision.

My personal opinion is that's too rich. These are solid cars but you can hit the used market and spend $10k less for near the same amount of miles. Like mine

Of course it’s your right to request all records. For the DSC pulse generator, A speed sensor for $100 should not raise any alarms though. The car is practically brand new, make sure it has not been in an accident and that oil has been replaced on time test drive and make sure the car drives like it should and there are no strange noises and you should be good to go! If you are still worried then I would suggest getting a professional opinion, get a private inspection done, shouldn’t be more than $200 and it worth it for the piece of mind. Good luck.

The price is middle of the road for that spec & mileage so I would say go for it. Black/brown appears pretty rare so keep that in mind. You can always change out the trim. I went from wood to hex (bought and sold used on this forum) and made $50!

I can't comment on the price as I'm on the other side of the pond. The 440i is a great engine though, it looks decent and a really nice colour combination too. The brown leather contrasts with the black exterior nicely.

Although it could be wrapped, the wood trim is also really easy to swap out. Literally would only take you about 20 minutes (if that) using some simple trim removal / pry tools. I swapped out the aluminium trim on my wife's F30 to the M Performance Alcantara & Carbon trim.

I quite like some of the darker wood trims, like this set: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-F30-F36.../324398669731?

Great car and price seems good to me. But if your in Pompano Beach FL Black is going to make for a hot car in the summer. I would vote for a lighter color.
