Strange acceleration and idling issues with my 2015 f30 335i
Strange acceleration and idling issues with my 2015 f30 335i with 7k miles
Kind of hard to explain, planning to bring it to dealer to test it out but not sure if i will able to explain it to them or for them to replicate it. So just want to see if anyone else experienced the same issues. Scenario 1 Car in park idles 600-650 RPM, press accelerator very lightly to bring idle to 700-750 RPM. Within 2-3 second RPM drops by itself to 500 and car starts to shake almost stalling, sounds like misfiring 3-4 seconds later RPM jumps to 850-900 by itself. Scenario 2 Car in drive completely stopped press accelerator lightly (10%) RPMs rise a bit but no movement for a 1-2 seconds press to 15% and it jumps forward kind of like student driver learning to drive stick shift. At this point it is almost impossible to start from stop fluidly. The only solution i fount is to start manually from 2nd. Scenario 3 Car idles 600-650 RPM, press accelerator very lightly to bring idle to 1000 RPM. Within 2 second rpm drops to 800 Any idea what might be causing this ? I hope i explained it clear enough it's kind of hard to describe it in words. |

The worse part it is kind of intermittent sometimes it is fine sometimes it is not.
But one thing i noticed hot weather makes it worse , like in the mornings it is fine but after day under the sun and outside temperature is in mid 90s issues tend to occure. Quote:

I don't know it is strange, it is jerky to start but once above 25 it feels sluggish like
it just doesn't want to go unless you floor it. I booked appointment at dealer but its on 3 weeks... |

So dealer could not replicate the issue...
I did send them video, foreman said this is normal especially on cold start. Funny that he mentioned that because in the beginning i told them it is more likely to happen when hot. https://vimeo.com/288917127 Does this look normal? Accelerator is pressed about 5-7% car is in park, AC is off. Last edited by dimammx; 09-11-2018 at 10:05 PM.. |

Can anyone test it on their own car?
With car in park on warmed motor, AC is off. Press accelerator 5-7% to bring RPMs to 750-850. After 5-10 sec mine drops to 450-450 shakes and sounds like misfiring (slight pops from exhaust). After few seconds RPMs jump to 850-900. And this cycle repeats. |

Vid doesn’t show it dropping below 500? Also could do without the music so we can actually hear the engine?

Yea in this video it does not.
It dropped below 500, on few occasions on very hot days and it felt like car was about to stall (unfortunately no video of that). I will try to get a better video with engine sound. But still does it look normal for RPM to fluctuate with constant pedal input? Maybe the calibration is off, i have seen a couple of times where i release the pedal and RPMs are actually jumping up. |

I had some engine stuttering at idle on cold starts. Pulled the MAF sensor, cleaned it with some MAF sensor cleaner, let it air dry, and reinstalled. Seems to have helped quite a bit.
You can pick up a can at your local auto parts store for <$10. Worth a shot for a potentially cheap and easy fix. Just be very careful when pulling out the sensor; you don't want to damage it by knocking it against anything.

Rpm drop during beginning of acceleration
I have an similar issue to where. When the car is at a stop, during regular acceleration. The RPMs would drop down to about 550-600 from around normal idle RPM of around 800. This happens on warm and cold engine. I don't see any sort of power loss. Car still feels good. But just the hesitation it has during acceleration then goes back to normal. Anyone know anything about it?
