I am trying to install the GFB DV+ diverter valve on my '13 X3 w/ N20 engine. the top left and bottom bolts were a breeze. Took less than 5 minutes to loosen. The T30 torx bolts seem to be of very little torque. Spec is around 10lb-ft.

But the top right bolt is hidden behind the engine block. The T30 socket cannot even be engaged due to the large angle. Following the advice from ISLO4G (LINK to his/her post), I bought the ball-end allen wrench set and ground down the shaft. But I was not able to loosen the bolt and have slipped twice. I am afraid that I might strip the bolt further so I stopped.

Questions: 1) what shall I do from here? any other tips? Can you tell how badly stripped is this torx bolt?
2) I noticed that there were a lot of oil sludge between the factory diverter valve and the turbo-to-charge pipe port. What could this be?

update: I was able to loosen that bolt. I bought a set of ball-end torx sockets and loosen'ed the bolt. The installation was equally PITA and needed me to grind down the stem of the 5mm hex ball-end socket to tighten that location bolt. (GFB uses hex bolt instead of torx).

I did the same thing, indeed it was an absolute PITA. At some point I thought it was impossible, but after struggling for x hours I managed. Indeed you need enough tools and different lengths, and trying from different angles.

And after taking off my stock diverter valve I found it in good working condition. The seals were all in good conditions. After installing the GFB DV+, I couldn't feel any difference during driving. Oh well.... shouldn't have touched this to begin with. Originally I thought it was a 15 min job since I have already taken out all the coolant hoses, waterpump, thermostat etc.

Indeed, if your car is not tuned, this mod doesn’t add any value.

and if you are at least moderately tuned, turbosmart is what you'd want to replace the stock diverter valve with...
