Boot Spolier Fitting Guidance

Just bought a boot spoiler that I presumed (my bad) would come complete with preinstalled laser cut tape for installation. It didn't, but it did come with two tubes of black silicone.

I have decent double sided tape, but does anyone have any experience with fitting using silicone, or both tape and silicone?

Using tape wouldn't be an issue other than the shape of the underside of the spoiler. It's quote concave and just has a flat spot around 5mm wide to actually seat on the car itself, so fitting tape to this spot accurately whilst doable, will be tricky, so considering the silicone alternative.

Please share any experience if you have any.

Thanks

I stuck mine on my F36 with the supplied roll of 3m double sided tape.

Made sure the area was nice and clean and grease free and stuck it down. I can pull up on the spoiler and it takes weight of the springs, no hint of moving or pulling off.

Not sure about using a silicone type product, could be a messy nightmare.

3M tape will be perfect for your spoiler, like above, make sure you clean the surface and apply properly.

I've had several cars which I've taken on track, the Autobahn and the Nurburgring without a hint of the spoiler falling off.

Thanks guys, yeah, I was thinking the same that the silicone option would just be an unnecessary mess!

Ordered some 5mm 3M tape off amazon so should be good to go.

Cheers

If you’ve never applied spoilers and the like before. Once you have it cleaned down the dry fit. Apply pieces of tape to the spoiler and boot lid to act as alignment marks so you don’t need to lift and adjust when you have the tape applied.

I haven't no, but that is exactly what I was planning on doing, thanks.

The paint job isn't the best I've seen, not the worst either, but going to colour sand it first regardless

Hi Guys

I used this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But water keeps getting under it and becomes lose on the ends. 50% of it was hanging off today and have to pull it off

I've cleaned all the area's really well. Should I be using 1.2mm tape or thicker?

Do you heat the tape at all ?

Thanks

One of the best tapes to use. Though I don’t think tape was your problem here.

3M VHB 5952 Adhesive Tape Simple Permanent Bonding with Double Coated Tape, Filmic Liner, 19 mm x 3 m, Black, 1 x Roll of Tape https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EDLPG..._gY3IFbHSMT9QT

Cheers alll

Would I be better off with 1.2mm or 3mm thick tape ? When I used 3mm the edges had slight air gaps between the spoiler and car

But the 3mm has more volume / foam

I used 1.2mm on both my cars when I fitted the carbon spoiler. Had no issues at all, as mentioned above, prep is key.
