F80/82 M3 M4 factory brakes on F30 335i - ????
I am considering an upgrade of my stock brakes (F30 335i M sport) to F80/F82 stock brakes.
Can someone confirm if it is possible or I will need to fabricate some spacers that will be bolt on to wheel carrier - I am not even sure if this is going to work? Blue M performance calipers are the same in both models (335i with 2NH option and M3/M4) but M3/M4 have slightly bigger rotors - 380mm vs 370mm (front) and 375mm vs 345mm (rear). |

Subscribing... this will be interesting if it is an easy-ish direct fit.

The M-Sport on the 335 and the F80-M cars use the same front caliper. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=34116799470 The parts interchange. The rotor is larger fits because caliper knuckle is more offset. Pad fitment is the same. The larger rotor gives more heat dissipation ability and unless you are seeing fade you will get nothing from spending the money just to get a 10mm larger rotor. Buy some Cool Carbons or some other aggressive pad and call it a day. Run better fluid with a higher boiling point. If you have the stock rotors that don't have dimples and slots, get the factory slotted and dimpled rotors. Don't bother trying to make the M rotors fit.

I only asked because I came across a really good deal on M4 calipers and rotors, much cheaper then M performance brake retrofit. I never planned to track BMW, I have another dedicated toy for it.
How about rear brakes? M4 rotors are much bigger. Do you know if they will fit? |

Very interesting
The front and rear must show without problem, the diameter of the rear brake jaws are the same But it is essential for diameter 20-inch alloy wheels |

Calipers are the same they bolt right up. Buy rotors for the M-Performance 335.

Unless the new brakes have more pistons, for example 6 pistons in the front and 4 pistons in the rear - the new brakes are largely equivalent to your current brakes. Brakes is one area that "the best brakes money can buy" is very applicable. Brembo or AP Racing Radi-CAL BBK kits (with J hook rotors) are much better.

Not more pistons , not the ceramics.
Std ones of F8x (4pots front 380mm - 2pots rear 370mm) can be fitted to euro 428i f32 without special modifications ? Last edited by Blacktan; 08-03-2016 at 03:43 AM.. |

Getting day by day deeper in the matter.
I see no reason F80/82 std brakes to not be compatible with Euro x28i x35i (for us only for x35i). Front & rear callipers are compatible following realoem compatibility catalogue. Front right caliper -34116799470 Front left caliper-34116799469 Rear caliper right -34218046262 Rear caliper left-34218046261 Now the hard job is to be 100% sure about compatibility of rotors. Front of F80/82 are 380x30 instead of 370x30 that is the recommended for m sport brakes to x28i x35i Offset are the same (i measure it on both) hub hole is the same. On rears of F80/82 are 370x24 instead of 345x24 than the recommended for m sport brakes. Offsets the same , drum hole for handbrake the same. So can i proceed ? I am ready to pull the trigger any opinion or objection much appreciated. |

possibly I've read that somewhere else, that the calipper will fit, as they are the same, but the front carrier of M3/M4 is different from the F3x models.
So on the F3x models the 380mm rotors can't be installed.

Ok , but i measure both rotors dimensions (offsets bores etc) and everything seem to me identical .
Cant understand with a calliper that via realoem it fits perfectly on both cars and a rotor in same dimensions what can be the main problem on the modification ? |

I haven't looked at the parts catalogue yet as i dont have an F30 but i have a feeling the F8x has a specific knuckle which is specific to the suspension geometry, like the F2x M135i/M235i has its own knuckles with 0.5* extra negative camber over the standard F2x knuckles.
The F8x knuckle might also have its caliper mounting holes cast with an extra ~5mm offset from the hub centre to allow the bigger rotors to fit. This allows BMW to save costs by using the same caliper as the S2NH kit. Which also means non-M cars get M grade calipers |

FWIW, I looked at a set of Brembo GT from F8x. Ran up the ladder at Brembo, as they have different numbers between F8x and F3x. (Besides rotor size), They confirmed the F8x had some different angles etc where the 2 were NOT Compatiable. Had a specific "something" that was difference, word I had never heard and not a brake guru, so quite frankly, don't remember what it was...just that they were not compatiable, which was all I needed to know. Don't think it was knuckles. Iirc it started with a p (but wasn't piston). I would assume this to be true with OEM as well, but have no reason to explore it. |

I went through this same process of figuring out how I wanted to upgrade the crappy standard M Sport 328i brakes (not the blue M-brakes that were a factory option). I settled on the M Performance Big Brake Kit which comes with 4 piston Brembo/370mm/slotted and dimpled rotors fronts and 2 piston Brembo/345mm/slotted and dimpled rotors rears. The improvement in high-performance driving/mountain driving (I drive the Tail of the Dragon at least once a year) cannot be overstated. They are pretty pricey retail but I was able to get employee pricing at the dealership and some of our vendors sell them for about the same - the yellow BBK was around $1250 employee price and the rear rotors (inexplicably sold separately) were around $450 or so I think. Don't forget, when you modify the braking system, you'll need to have the car coded for the new rotor size as otherwise, you deal with a mushy pedal.
