DIY: Using Adaptive LED Cornering Lamps as Fog lights
My 435i xDrive M-Sport with Adaptive LED Headlights did not come with dedicated front fog lights, which I miss, especially when driving in inclement weather. I looked into retrofitting the OEM fog lights but I have the auxillary radiators and did not want to restrict airflow to these rads.
Earlier this year I enabled my rear fogs by following azwillnj post on the topic (http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...67&postcount=1) but instead of modifying the OEM headlight switch, I purchased a switch that included both front and rear fog light buttons (https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...tch/ES2562202/). After completing azwillnj's DIY, I noticed the headlights behaved differently when I engaged the front fogs with the main headlight switch set to Auto (and VLD coded). Also, I have been impressed with how well the cornering lamps, integrated into the Adaptive LED headlights, light up the sides of the road and thought these lamps would be great fog lights. If there was only a way to bind the cornering lamps to the front fog light button..... I recently read Dmnc02's post (http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&postcount=796) and I reached out to him yesterday for his help to enable the cornering lamps as fogs. For those that are not aware, Dmnc02 is the definitive authority on NGHB coding and the Adaptive LED Headlights (in my opinion). Dmnc02's suggestions (reproduced below) to enable the corner lamps with the front fog light button were straight forward and easy to implement: "When the front fog lights are activated, NGHB is prevented and VLD is in the Foggy [Adverse] Weather Mode. You should be able to add the cornering lights to M1 and M2, which correspond to this Mode (they are the same) by changing the 4th byte from 00 to the intensity you want." "...the cornering lamps will automatically turn on when the LED headlights operate in M1/M2 modes, but the LED headlights only operate in M1/M2 modes when the fog switch is engaged..." I FDL coded: LHM [43] M1 - werte value = FA 64 00 FA FA FA 00 LHM [43] M2 - werte value = FA 64 00 FA FA FA 00 LHM [44] M1 - werte value = FA FA 00 FA FA FA 00 LHM [44] M2 - werte value = FA FA 00 FA FA FA 00 Note: 1) FA represents the maximum brightness level so you can set it to any level to suite the light output level for your application; 2) I had previously enabled NGHB using Dmnc02's DIY (http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&postcount=429) so the werte values will be different if you have not enabled NGHB. I tested the results of these changes last night. The cornering lamps do a wonderful job as fog lights. They light up the road and shoulders immediately in front of you and automatically turn off with high beam. Unfortunately while the front fogs are turned on: 1) NGHB is disabled and only HBA is available; 2) VLD appear to be disabled and fixed to Adverse Weather mode (M1/M2). However, NGHB and VLD are re-enabled automatically when the front fogs are turned off. I would like to thank Dmnc02 for his support and contributions on this topic. Larry

Nice: they seem to do the job without creating glare for other drivers.
Given the BMW uses the fog lights as cornering lights by default on cars that do not have the latter (e.g., X5/X6), the light distribution must not be too dissimilar. I wonder why BMW does not do this for cars that have no provision for front fog lights (like the M3/M4).

Hi everyone! Bumping an old thread
Is this possible on an F10 with bi-xenon? I recently did a fog light delete and wanted my fog light button to turn on cornering lights instead. Unfortunately I don’t have a LHM module |

Dmnc02, we are trying to code permanent corner lights on g20 m340i vehicles because BMW chose not to include fog lights on such model. Any chance you would be able to help us determine the right coding necessary?

Edit: If you have FLE instead of LHM, you might want to check out this thread See post #29 of this thread: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1304926 It contains a lot of useful information and I am working to figure it out. Last edited by mrpingu; 04-11-2023 at 02:51 AM.. |

I own the 520d G30 pre-LCI.Love you idea of using adaptive led’s cornering lights as fog. I would like to code but I couldn’t find the FLE, FDL or LHM module. Where is it in the menu? (I’m using Bimmercode expert mode)
