Yeah, don’t do that. Everyone says it’s a crappy (but doable) job and you don’t want to do it twice. Pick up a pure inlet (if you’re EWG) and a Turbosmart unit.

What would you say about the go fast bits diverter valve?

It looks like a pain in the ass to install. Someone was selling on in the FS section. They work well, but I’m personally doing the Turbosmart one eventually.

There have been some recent posts that GFB DV+ requires maintenance. Since uninstalling/reinstalling is such a chore, this reason alone would dissuade me from it.

Unlike gfb dv+, Turbosmart doesn't use parts of the oem valve but replaces completely. gfb dv+ is basically just more robust parts whereas Turbosmart is exactly that, a "smart" valve, electronically metered based on demand. Yes, it is a bit expensive but seems well worth it imo.

Our customers prefer GFB DV+, we sold a lot of units without any complaints

Yeah +1 for this. Apparently there could be issues with GFB DV+ if you do not oil during initial install, and then potentially re-oil every 10-15k miles.

The turbosmart is relatively new to market, so we don't really know how it performs in the long term.

Personally, i would not try to save a little money by getting a ebay brand one given the install difficulty/time. This is a moving part (and an important one), and not something like a plastic or metal tube, so i would steer clear of ebay.

Clearly you meant thousands, but imagine having to oil it every 10-15 miles lol

Where have you gotten this DV+ maintenance hear-say from? Do we have any pictures of worn DV+ units?

It was on a couple threads within the past few months. I think it was based on observed/logged changes in performance that were attributed to wear on the DV (i.e., orings). That's at least for our platform. There were references to Audi/VW (IIRC) forums where they had more evidence that the GFB DV were supposed to be oiled every 10-15k.

Most of the claims of a failing GFB DV+ were not on this platform from what I've read. Unless I've missed something

There were claims for our platform (only very few). The "evidence" if you want to call it that was on other platforms. I dont think i can easily find the posts since they were buried in other threads and not their own.

I remember the thread and just as you stated, the claims of failure were based on other platforms. No evidence has been shown to in fact prove that the GFB Dv+ needs routine maintenance or that it has failed prematurely.

I personally have been using the GFB DV+ mostly because it was the only upgraded DV available at the time for my PS2 build but if it were to fail I'd consider the turbo smart option. It all depends on how and when my DV were to fail that would sway my decision.

What would you say the benefits would be on fbo?

Quicker response for the stock turbo would be the best benefit but its a PITA to install. Luckily mine was done all at once when the PS2 went in lol.
