Do I have CIC or NBT HU?
Hi
Can anybody confirm what type of HU I have in my car, have checked my build info against the VIN and it's not mentioned on there. I'm also out of the UK at the moment so can't physically remove the HU to check. Car is August 2015 built F30 LCI with Business Nav. Thanks in advance |

Thanks for confirmation regarding CIC, car originally came with a 6.5" screen (smaller square viewing area) but I've retrofitted a 8.5" screen since (full screen viewing area). |

CIC, Car Information Computer (up to late 2012 as Alan quite rightly pointed out) CIC HIGH (Pro Nav) otherwise known as NBT (Next Big Thing)?? I'm just trying to find out what I-Drive system I have fitted to my car as I'm interested in adding a reversing camera. Have just found a bit of info on Wikipedia and as Vorph mentioned it looks like I have HU_Entrynav.........it's bloody confusing TBH (To Be Honest) TTFN |

CCC = Car Communication Computer (the iDrive Business Navigation) CIC = Car Information Computer (the next generation iDrive from 2008 ish) NBT = Next Best Thing (another new generation iDrive in 2012) HU = Head Unit (the bit slotted into the dash) You've got to love an acronym EDIT - I was one minute too slow

To my surprise that was indeed a HU_Entrynav which I believe also has the combox built in (as does the NBT). It's likely therefore that you have the same. You can check by looking under the boot floor - if you have no combox then it must be built into the HU (and therefore is HU_Entrynav). If you do have a combox (sliver box alongside the underfloor fusebox) then the HU is surely something else (I don't know what!!). I know this isn't a guarantee and don't know what that means for your camera?

You have HU_ENTRYNAV so basically a slightly downgraded version of NBT. |

I basically bought the 8.8" screen from eBay, it's just a case of keeping an eye out for a decent one, prices vary and I paid £400 but the screen was immaculate and completely unmarked. There are various dismantlers in Latvia that advertise complete NBT systems etc, it might be worth asking them if they have a screen for sale separately. You just need to be careful that any screen you buy is compatible with your HU. Teaston and Vorph seem to be the guys to speak to in that regard. I've pasted a link below which is worth a read, you can glean a lot of info from it. Replacing the screen itself is very easy and you'll need to get some coding done. Be aware that the screen will remain completely blank once connected until the coding is done so don't be alarmed. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1295850 Hope that helps, just let me know if you need any further info.
