$150 in Salt Lake City. Also quoted $486 to change the spark plugs.

I would think they would make more money charging reasonable prices but I guess there are people willing to pay those outrageous prices.

$250 but this is in Sweden. Hate that I have to pay that, for something I can easily do.

For you DIY guys: 7 bottles of Motul = $49. 1 filter kit = $12. Total cost = $61

$79.99 seems to be the cheapest @ San Diego. I'm wondering now; what oil did they put in your car and will they even swap out the filter?

I paid $85 for first oil change at 3k miles, it's not covered. Just a old school way of doing things.

I've done it in Rochester NY dealer as well. I tried doing it myself and messed up the plastic drain plug LOL. BMW of Rochester charged me $40 a couple of years ago for labor only since I already had the oil and filter.

Now I change the oil myself in between the 13k intervals suggested by iDrive for my 2013 328i, and I plan to do oil changes every 6k miles or so in the future.

5 to 6 quarts of oil on sale at Costco or Advance Auto Parts plus the BMW oil filter is about $40. Initial investment in ramps, drain pans, bolt for the drain plug, and a strap wrench is like $60. So it is very cost effective to do this yourself, even if I can afford the dealer oil change. I find it an enjoyable way to spend 30 minutes on a weekend. Plus our local recycling center makes it dead easy to get rid of the old oil and filter.

I have no doubt that if anything broke on our BMWs, I'll be paying a lot for repairs, but I will have to say Bimmers are designed wonderfully for oil changes. My dad and I did a recent oil change on the 328 and a Mazda5, and it was really a pain to get to the oil filter on the Mazda, which is under the engine and therefore makes a mess once you do manage to get it out. The drain plug was also hard to remove, and also at a 90 degree angle. The BMW on the other hand, has an easy to remove plastic plug and the filter on top, so everything is easy and not messy at all.

Where do you see that? I know they offer a old oil return program for oil changes, but never heard of subsequent free oil/filter change kits and don't see anything on their site. Cant imagine they could afford such a program, but I'm in if they do!!!!

Wow, revisiting old thread. It is about $40 as local dealer has 1/2 off sale coupon via e-mail about every other month.
