Timing chain chain tight sometimes and loose sometimes bmw n20

Hi, I am a bit confused with my bmw n20. Sometimes when the car is warmed up, my timing chain will be tight and then other times I’ll check it when it’s warmed up and it will be loose. Any explanation?

Depending on the position of the chain/cam etc. the tension varies. It's worse with the original tensioner as it doesn't provide enough tension, so it you haven't replaced it you should.

Is this something that is normal from the factory or is it due to wear?

It's normal. The chain doesn't wear out. If it did it would wear out on the N55 too, it's the same chain. Same guides as well. What was different was the tensioner.
