I'm also interested in this mod, but have a question about the controller for the butterfly valve in the muffler. My last 3-series was an E36 with a vacuum powered valve, so since the F30 uses and electrically-controlled valve, is there any error code thrown when that is removed? Is there an easy way to trick the car into thinking the plug is still plugged in?

Don't remove it at all. When my shop installed the Magnaflow catback, after disconnecting the actuator from the stock exhaust all they did was zip-tie it up and out of the way. No codes or issues at all since then, but before the install I had the same question as you.

For the 3 guys that have done the muffler delete can you share a vid with us? From experience in deleting mufflers in the past, you'll get a raspy sound. Problem with our cars is the exhaust note. It may sound like a rice rocket with a folgers coffee can attached to the tail pipe. I dont want to feel like i am in a "fast n furious" car with 5 bottles of NOS. thanks for listening. Lol.

sorry guys!

Ill try and take video maybe today. Its really not super loud, but it DOES drone under light load. freeway its pretty quiet. Remember, I have an M-sport with N26 so I have the secondary cat in the exhaust (cat and a resonator).

Ill try and grab some video today. But be ware, its going to be with my iphone.

That actually sounds clean and not obnoxious. If you could do a drive by and an in cab driving vid that would be greatly appreciated.

That honestly sounds better than the fiat 500 Abarth.

Sounds pretty good. How much does this run? Do you lose power by any chance?

no power loss. But did not notice a power increase. I'm sure it helps, but butt dyno is inconclusive.

It does drone inside the cabin. Ill try and get some in cabin video soon. Its quiet cruising, but drones with low load.

Just got back from my local muffler shop and did the muffler delete with dual resonated tips. The tips I chose look very similar to the Borla and Active Autowerks exhaust systems. So far I'm very happy.

Sound
Not too loud but there definitely is a nice rumble, especially in the mid range while boosting. The cold start sound is very deep and throaty, and you can hear a pop and gurgle on upshifts. I haven't noticed any significant drone at highway speeds either but we'll see in a few hundred miles when the pipes break-in. As with any exhaust upgrade, you can definitely tell its not stock but it inst bothersome by any means. If you have an auto, regular 'D' mode is still very quiet around town. DS and Sport are a bit louder but sound great to my ears. Im sure a nice full exhaust would sound a little more refined, but this option coupled with the factory resonator is good enough for me.

Performance
I havent driven much yet but low end torque seems to be improved. Light acceleration in the low RPM range seems to pick up faster and the car seems snappier under boost. Its over 90F today so im sure ill see some more performance when the air cools down later tonight.

Price
I paid $200 for the parts and labor and im definitely happy with the result. I didn't feel like dishing out $1000+ on an exhaust for my leased car, but really wanted some better sound. This did the trick for me and is easily reversible upon lease turn in. if your on the fence about spending money on an exhaust, this is a good way to go.

ill try to post a video when I get some time. cheers

No CEL as I left the valve connected but secured inside the fender panel. I have noticed a nice performance increase so far as per the butt dyno and the sound is very nice with the tips i chose.

sooooo....you had them build you a muffler section? I guess I'm a little fuzzy on what you did. If so, how did you get away with spending $200? Tips are usually $100 or so for something nice.

No muffler, just new piping and tips. As for the exhaust valve, it's secured to the inside rear fender panel as to not throw a CEL. I set it up so I can easily replace factory muffler when lease is up.

No rasp whatsoever. It has a nice throaty sound and gurgle/pop. I also have an n26 so I'm sure it's a bit quieter than an n20 would be. I'm using bms stage 1 at +4 psi.

Tips were like $100 and another $100 for the pipes/labor. Sound is Not ricey at all. Very nice outcome for a low price in my opinion.
