M-Sport brake pads

Can anyone suggest a brand for m sport brake pads (blue ones) Tried to find a good brand and personally stopped on pagid vs textar as both seem to be made at same factory and used by BMW.

iDrive shows 2000 miles before service due for back pads, I'm thinking to change the ASAP so i don't have to buy another sensors.

Also if i reset the service as thinking of doing it myself seems easy job vs taking to indi and updating iDrive to say service was carried out and pads changed to keep record/value of the car when selling. But service is not due for at least a year for any other parts.

Any thoughts?

This is from tirerack.com for a 2018 F34 with MSport. Note the front and rear listing specifically for MSport. I've been using Akebono for decades on a variety of cars...great performance and almost no dust, while also quiet. I plan to use Akebono Euro for my replacement.

FWIW the iDrive mileage to service is a pure guess, as the car has no way of measuring the pad thickness. That can only be verified visually, and you have to check both wheels, inside and outside. You may have 10,000 miles left, you may have 100. That's because there's only one sensor per axle, whereas there are four pads per axle. I check mine yearly when I have the wheels off to rotate the tires.

If you want OEM M Sport brake pads, any genuine BMW pads will be fine. The friction material is made to BMW specifications.

I also like OEM M Sport brake pads. Despite the dust, initial aggressive bite outweighs any cosmetic disappointments.

Where would i get OEM breaks from? Or where do you source them from?

In terms of iDrive you guys saying change pads yourself before sensor comes in contact, and reset service?

Any BMW dealer will be happy to sell you OEM brake pads. In the US, getbmwparts.com is one of the most popular places to order BMW parts.

The brake wear sensors are so inexpensive that I suggest to replace them when the new pads are installed.

Of course they are, they carry a 90% markup.

It's easy enough, watch youtube videos to see how it's done. Pay special attention to the greasing of the pad/caliper metal to metal contact points. Failure to do so causes squeal.

Thank you, yeah watched few vids, 2 pins out, clip off, separate pads, pull em out and greasing as you mentioned. Can i use copper grease used on wheel bolts or needs brake grease?

You should use brake grease, which is formulated to stand up to the temperatures that brakes reach. There are some brake greases that incorporate copper, but IMO copper doesn't make them special. I use this: https://www.permatex.com/products/lu.../?locale=en_us

BMW brake grease is probably the most reasonably priced item a dealer parts counter sells, maybe $1.50 or less.

FYI/ Hawk 5.0 brake pads come with brake paste included in the box.

Look at them, they're obviously different.

Bill,

I appreciate your comments and help on other posts but your "smart ass" response to this question is unwarranted. I hadn't been able to find pics or info on M-sport brakes on an F34 , hence my question. Unless you have some helpful information, maybe just refrain from commenting.

And I repeat, look at them. That's what pretty much everyone does. If you don't know what M-Sport calipers look like it's easy enough to find pictures of them, for instance at realoem.com.

Ehodg66,

I have the m sport package but not m sport brakes. Front rotors are 340mm, not 370mm, and my calipers are plane silver brembos up front.

If you look at the rears on fcp euro, you will see that they are quite different between the base and the m sport brakes.

I ordered wrong when I first had my car so learned the hard way.

I think one of the other parts sites has a tutorial on exactly how to distinguish between the 3 versions, base, m sport, and m performance but it's been too long I don't know it off the top of my head.

I could be wrong, but on the 340i F34, I thought there's only base and M performance brakes (blue calipers). I'm not aware if M sports package has different brakes.

Maybe you should of offered up realoem.com with your first comment instead of your typical , bitter old man retort.
It's not that difficult to be normal instead of a Richard Cranium. Try it.
