Are BOV bad for n20/n26 motors?

How's it going forum I was looking into getting a BOV from CT works but was told from a f30 328i owner that their bad for our cars?Especially the ebay ones? Is this due to air pressure or can someone chime in?

Thats a no-go. Its a closed air metered system.

So to just come close to the BOV sound it'll have to be like a CAI?

An aftermarket intake might increase the air sucking sound, but it won't be the same as the distinctive psss as a BOV. Everyone knows that these cars are a closed system and use diverted valves so you will most likely just induce eye rolls rather than accolades. Look
into an exhaust if you really want an aural improvement from your car.

Maybe you could trade in for a Honda, then the BOV would work.

The reason the BOV doesn't work is due to the computer thinking the air is being recycled into the car, vs being vented to the atmosphere (what a BOV does). It will cause your car to run rich as it will have more fuel than air.

IMHO a good exhaust note is better than an engine that sounds like it has asthma.

Well the car comes from the factory with a diverter valve to redirect charged air back into the system, obviously. The GFB DV+ is just a sturdier diverter valve to replace the failure prone factory one. It also has a stiffer spring, which gives you that flutter sound. There's a really in depth thread about it on the N20 sub.

I have yet to hear of a failed DV on stock boost. Is it really that common on tuned N20's?

I wouldn't say it's common, but it certainly happens, enough to consider it failure prone, to a degree. They don't just blow up or anything, typically they'll tear at first, creating a smallish boost leak, and the tear can then continue to expand until you have a fairly serious boost leak. They don't catastrophically fail, but they can tear and be the source of a boost leak.
