One car challenge!
A bit left field, but hopefully fun!
You can choose one car, produced within the last twenty five years. It will be your only car, and must therefore satisfy all your current motoring needs. Assume that car is new, fresh from the production line. Justify your single choice. My choice is the E39 M5. IMO, the best looking M5, 5 series, ever produced. Enough performance for any eventuality. Before the days of oversized wheels and tyres, so comfortable for long runs. The looks are understated, elegant, and to those who know, it radiates a half hidden menace. A five litre V8, with a six speed manual, naturally aspirated, non of the turbo nonsense. But when you want to go to the shops, or drive to the south of France 370lb/ft of peak torque, with half of it available from just off idle, covers the bases. Enough room internally and boot large enough to carry passengers and luggage in comfort. Hell, at a steady motorway cruise, you may even see late 20s to the gallon! The E39 M5. My choice of everyday transport. |

Same for me but I'd have the LCI model, angel eyes looked cool back then.

For me it's between an RS6 and an M3 Touring.
Extremely practical, fast AF, put the dog in the back, tent on the roof, great for weekend road trips and a great drive as well. The sound of the RS6 is just lovely, even with the OPF, whereas I imagine the M3 will be a better drive, which I think weights it slightly above the RS6. So, that's a very long winded way of saying an M3 Touring in black please (to hide the face).

Audi RS6 avant V8, later model.
The noise, the looks, the road presence, the space for the dog. |

I would go to work in one car and come home in another. I have settled down now, but I have been ridiculous in the past. I get bored with then to quickly and once I do what I want with them I lose interest and move on. |

Panamera V8 Diesel, huge reserves of performance with 420hp and 620ft/lb of effortless torque, lots of space, 700 mile range, 60 in 4 seconds and 180mph.
Perfect for crushing continents or nipping to the garden centre.

One car challenge
My current 430d F33 is by far the best car I have ever owned and when rolling on to a French autoroute [with bicycles on the bike rack] and applying the loud pedal, the way it accelerates never fails to put a smile on my face.

Money no object, probably an Urus for all the same reasons I'd have an RS6, but with added badge kudos and rarity (relatively speaking).
Factoring in value for money, and wanting to fly below the radar, current gen RS6 with the gold wheels. E39 M5 is a great choice though. Back in 2002 when I was still at school, the E46 M3 was the schoolyard choice but the big M5 did it for me (and still does).

Money no object - current gen (C8) RS6 for me - have always had a thing for them. A decent spec low mileage previous gen (C7) model can be had for well under £60K and without an intergalactic mileage.
E63S would be a good alternative Last edited by Blacktemplar; 01-30-2024 at 10:03 AM.. |

Sorry for repeating what others have already said, but for me C8 RS6 / M3 Touring or latest X5M would float my boat as practical all rounders with enough performance to keep me grinning.
I would also happily "make do" with an Alpina B3 Touring if i had to slum it

Changed my mind, I'm going a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso and visiting petrol stations more often.
AWD, 6.5l V12 with 690hp plus 4 seats and a boot...more perfect especially in Grigio Ferro with tan leather.
