Yes I think you should, hence I changed my choice, but it's still your choice.

OK they were fecking expensive, but this isn't about money. Having owned just one Alpina (E92 B3), they are bloody awesome. The phrase "the gentleman's M" has been levelled at Alpinas since the M was invented. Got to say it is spot on, from my experience. Everybody who likes BMs should own an Alpina at some stage. They are like a BMW + for reasons that just can't be explained, only experienced. |

If you want it and can afford it, get it! Alpinas really do rock. You will get more attention from 'car people' than any McLaren or AM and will be a lot cheaper to own |

Yes it’s tempting, but it’s a silver one - so I’m not sure. He wants ~£32k which feels steep to me for a 2016 - anyway, musing…. According to him he gets better MPG than my XC90 so there’s decent supporting man maths…

There are 6 or 7 new Alpina B3 Touring dotted around various Sytner dealerships. No change from low £90K but there are some that look stunning. Unfortunately they are completely out of my budget for a future upgrade.

That is two and a half times the price I just paid for a 2016 320i F31, but I bet it's more than 2 1/2 times the car! |

My friend had this B5 sale recently for £93k. I tried but couldn't reconcile selling my g31 and spending an extra 70k to get what my wife would see as exactly the same car. It's sold now so the temptation has gone but it was lovely.

For me, the E39 M5 is a superb car; but it's still an E39 saloon and too small for me/my needs/preferences etc... I've had x3 E39 saloons and x1 touring - I would go with the touring every time
That was a superb car with the 3L M54 engine and it did everything I needed of it... Only sold it because it'd peaked re it's value with nit being a Jap import and worth more than a UK car, more so after all the work I'd put into it) and got the money I wanted for it (owned it nearly 3 years and fancied getting into an F01 7'er for a change; which I did, but always missed the E39 touring)! If I could afford one / wanted to spend that money for a 'only one car to choose from' it'd be the B5 5 series Alpina touring OR a really well spec'd G31 540i M Sport touring However if Im won the Euromillions; a GTC4 Lusso would be one of my first buys

I've had x3 7 series and I live semi-rural with back country roads and B roads as my usual routes, not lit at night either and never had any issues re the car being too big (and some of the roads are bloody tight, more so as you head further into the Ribble Valley) But leaving it at a station overnight; I'd never dream of doing that, with any car haha

Great thread.
A car to do everything I need today? Rules out a lot of interesting motors. I will pick the one I sold two years ago - a 2020 Land Rover Discovery 5 SDV6 HSE Luxury. (not the later facelift, thank you very much). Family space, occasional 7 seats if needed, waftily comfortable and very well specced. Tempting to plump for an FFRR instead, but just not so comfortably go anywhere as the Disco - both size and image.

A fast petrol estate, Audi A4 Avant or BMW/Alpina 3 Touring. Simples
Would have said A6 Avant or 5 series Touring a few years but they've got too large now.

F90 M5 CS, Evo car of the year when it came out, and one of Chris Harris' favourite ever cars, and I feel both reviewers' tastes and requirements from a performance car match my own. Reading the Evo car of the year edition from 2021 and the way all 6 or so journalists described what it feels like to drive (compared to the Porsches, Ferraris and lambos also in the test) cemented it as one of the cars I desire the most.
Alpina B7(G11) would closely follow and would probably win if I was 10 years older. https://youtu.be/DQy8XlJKIIk?si=sblBqe9U4mO4X5fo |

Pretty much 100%. I think the RS4 just pips it, as personally I think it looks better the the 3, but any of them would do
