Newby tunning
Just got my 2014 335i xdrive out of warranty that I can tune to gain more horses. I just want to do one thing at a time and will get a piggyback JB4 just in case I need to go back to the dealer. Read lots of forums that I need to change the charge pipe just for sake of it. The charge pipe wont gain any horsepower.
Next is the downpipe preferred catted so hopefully wont get the CEL. What is the most common one that I can get? Or a catless DP with tuned software that can get rid of the CEL. What is the best tune for beginner? |

I got started tuning my 335i last year like you wish to do now. I wanted to get my feet wet without investing a ton of money. I installed JB4's middle brother, the JB Stage1. It's not as expensive or complicated as JB4, and it's much smoother than their baby brother, the JB+. I paid over $400 for the JB Stage1 including the special cable to modify its boost settings. It can be removed in just 5 minutes for dealer servicing the car. There are only two connections that are simple to reach. I am selling my JB Stage1 for $249 including shipping. Please let me know if you are interested. See photo. |

I ran for thousands of miles on BM3 stage 1, 93 octane with no issues to my stock charge pipe. Other people have had them fail on bone stock cars... just a failure point that may or may not happen. I'm going for FBO and stage 2 of BM3, so I have an ER charge pipe on now (installed by my dealer, no charge... different story) and a Wagner IC and fabspeed catted downpipe waiting to go on after new engine break in.
If you want to dabble, the JB stuff is probably the lowest effort and easiest to remove if you're concerned. I would say by the amount of JB products for sale used in classifieds that 50% or more end up going to BM3 or MHD eventually, though. So buy a used one and save some $$ and then re-sell it when you eventually upgrade.

I recently went with VRSF charge pipe and MHD stage 1 tune. MHD is inexpensive, has lots of customization (like exhaust burble, reset adaptations, etc) installs via the OBD port and is easily reversible.
Would recommend you spend time over here on the N55 sub-forum. Tons of info... https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=421 |

Thanks for all this info. I probably go with the JB4. What is the percentage for the charge pipe to break or wait for it to break first? LOL... I have stock now..... or its a must to change the charge pipe?

Depends on whether or not you're OK being stranded somewhere if it blows...

Thanks guys for the info! Getting a VRSF charge pipe from Mike above and a set of JB4. Will look into the down pipe maybe in a few more months.
How many HP will Catted or Catless give... different brands more? I know the catless will give a smell and much louder.
