2015 435 - N55 Idle Ticking Sound
Is it the lifters making the ticking noise?
Just did an oil change and started the car for about a minute and I don't ever recall the car sounding like this. If it’s the lifters, should they be replaced ASAP? Last edited by meek07; 12-09-2024 at 09:37 AM.. Reason: Added a video of the sound in question |

It's typically the injectors. They're DI and noisy.

Car has 65000km Stage 2 BootMod3 tune since 2020. I’ve only put around 8000km on since owning it. |

15k km is like what? 10k miles lol? Good luck. 😀
It’s defo not conrod bearing. Had it few years ago on my F30 N55. After 2-3 oil changes, the sound cleared out so it had to be stuck hyd lifter. But video would be helpful to try to diagnose your issue. Is it ticking all the time or only just after startup? You need to give us more details like how thick is oil, video, etc. Could be as easy as DI. Same as I would call my doc and say I’ve got stab pain. Where, when, any changes, etc. |

If you're on desktop you can click the 'go advanced' button at the bottom and then there will be an option when you click on the red plus sign. I've posted a video on this forum before, I think I decided the easiest way was to upload a video to YouTube and then link it here. Something about the attachment thing on this website wasn't working well.

Also, on the topic of oil... I think 15k kilometers or 10k miles is a very high interval, personally I change every 5-7k miles with 5W40. I use LiquiMoly but I really don't think brand is important, I just use that so I can use the lifetime replacement program with FCP Euro.

There is still no video. I typically upload to YouTube and then post a link here so we don't consume the forum servers' disk space.
Now, this ticking noise. "Sounds" normal to me. With the hood up, the engine cover off, and the insulating foam removed. Quick-fire ticking noise with 1-2 tempo at idle. I've had that noise since day one, and it's been eight years of ownership of a ten-year-old car. Now, if the ticking increases with the throttle and is audible from the cabin. I would be worried. Straight six engines do not purr at idle. They sound horrible and like to scream when rev'd. But boy they sure are fun to drive.
