SoCal F30 General / Coding Meet: Sunday, June 1st, 2014 9:00am in Tustin

It's time for another coding meet!

What: A general F30 get together and coding meet.

When: Sunday, June 1st, 2014 at 9:00am until whenever we're done coding, probably around noon or so, then grab some lunch.

Where: Best Buy parking lot in Tustin

2982 El Camino Real
Tustin, CA 92782

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=33.721425,+-117.793981

Please post a message on this thread if you plan on attending, and indicate if you want to code your car so I'll know how many cars will need to be done. Each car takes 20-30 minutes depending on how many features are coded. I'll stick around until everyone that wants to be coded is coded.

If there are any coders out there willing to help out, please chime in. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Below is the current coding list summary of the things that can be coded on F30's.

For anyone that wants to update their navigation map, please PM me for details.

I am planning on attending. I should have the cable and the software/token by then. So I will be able to nominally help code. I noticed on the coding cheat sheet, you do not have Launch control listed. I thought that was working now on SAT? Either way, I am interested in trying to get it working.
Thanks again for doing this.

I have LC on my supplemental sheet.

It's there and not on the main sheet because I do not have direct confirmation of it working yet.

I've coded it on 3 cars so far and they have all reported that it isn't working. All 3 already have SAT with somewhat older software, but well after what has been reported as the minimum version required.

A recent report on another forum indicates that the 10km (6 mile) warm-up period requires that Auto-Start-Stop NOT stop the engine during this period. Maybe that was preventing LC from engaging on the people that tried it.

We can code it on yours and see if it works or not.

Thanks, sounds like a plan. Looking forward to the meet.

Would love to but my 328d probably won't be back in the states until later in June...I could always bring the wife's 328ixGT if the coding functions/options are the same...

As long as it's an F-Series car, we can code it.

I've coded an F31 wagon, but not a GT yet. It's all the same.

I'm planning on bringing my F32 and laptop computer (with software and cable). I'm new to coding and I'd like to get tips on how to do it myself... give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, but teach him to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime.

I will swing by to say hi since it is so closed to home.

Plus it will give me incentive to wash my car.

Agreed!

My preferred method of coding is to have the owner to the coding while I walk them through the procedures step-by-step to make sure everything is done correctly. That way they are more involved in the process and they learn how to code if they want to do it themselves in the future. One you've coded a few ECU's, you'll see how easy it really is.

I'll do the actual coding if the owner isn't comfortable doing it themselves.

I'd love to join. Pretty new to the whole concept of coding the ecu, but have been reading up on threads and sure I'll want to code myself in the future. Is this open to all? I'd be in for a plethora of changes.

Yes, it's open to all F3X owners.

Unfortunately I don't have the equipment or expertise to code E-series frames, just F-Series.

Got rid of the e89 last year and am in a F30 now, so I guess I'll see you then!

Garage List
@Frogman, for people that are interested in Coding, but have items like a Tune and FBO, is there anything you have to do special in order for the car to take the codes and not go into limp mode? I believe that happened to me, because once it was coded (LA zoo meet), I noticed everything was re-set in my car (Time, date, etc.). And then I got limp mode right away on the freeway to lunch, but i am guessing it had to do with the tune I have on the car? Could the car re-setting re-set the JB4 to like map 0 from map2? I might of even been in map 6 running 100 octane at the time. And now my car is set up with flex fuel wires, and I did have problems with too much e85, so I just want to make sure if there are a lot of different components added on, if it makes coding anymore difficult or problems some?

I just want to make sure if I do get it coded, or anyone with a tune, should just be careful. My car is fine, no worries at all, but I did have to re-install the JB4 I believe and then it was good.

My current set up: IPE cat back exhaust and DP, BMS stage 2 map 2, ER chargepipe, flex fuel wires running mixture of 91 and E85 ( no more than 2-2.5 gallons E85), I still put 100 octane once every blue moon, maybe 4 gallon of that, BMS intake, Wagner I.C.

I also have a system, 2-12's, a amp, and a extra Kinetic battery. Although i like the system, I am convinced if I run my system too much, it possibly effects a drain on my battery. @Frogman, have you seen this message ever before, and what do you think the cause of it could be? I get it roughly every 3 days, in the morning when I am starting my car.

Any info is appreciated

I can't figure how re-scale this thing at work, but it says, " bettery discharging while stopped. electrical devices were temporarily switched off"

This current recommendation on the coding forum seems to be to disable or simply disconnect any tunes before coding.

The tune does not interfere with coding, but the coding traffic on the cars' buses seems to sometimes confuse the tune.

I have not had anyone else have this kind of issue, but seeing cars with tunes is still pretty rare.

I did code another car with a tune (JB4 I think...) about 3 weeks ago and we just disabled it via the steering wheel. We coded his car and we didn't have any issues (CEL or limp mode) AFAIK.

I've see posts of people getting this battery low message after having their cars parked for a month in cold weather, but I've never see that message before or any other battery related message before.

Read your post in the other thread. Good to know, as I will probably have the same issue. Hope to see you there!
