Will stock 17" 393 rims clear the MSport 345mm rear brakes?
Hello there!
Right after I got the car I got myself a nice set of OZ 18 inchers and the 17" stock rims (see pic) have been gathering dust since there's no reason to have a set of winter tires in Spain. These are the wheels i'm talking about: I have just started tuning and taking the car to the track and I would very much like to buy a set of slicks for the 17" rims so I can stop destroying expensive street rubber. Trouble is I just installed the blue brembos, 340mm fronts and 345 rears, and I'm concerned the 17" rims wont clear the calipers. Now I know I could just jack up the car and try it for myself instead of asking you guys, but if it just so happens that someone has already tried this and can save my lazy ass the trouble... So what do you guys think? Go? No go? |

Here is the thread worth reviewing ...
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1303102 The prevailing opinion: 18" wheels are needed to clear M Sport brakes. |

It seems the 17" wheels don't clear the 370mm brakes, but they do clear the 340mm ones... But yeah it's still unclear. I guess it'll be fun with the jack for me this evening... |

You need 18" rims to clear the big brake upgrade.

I just installed my OEM 400M 18" winter wheels with the M4 Blue Brembo setup (370mm/345mm) & the front clearance between caliper/pad ears and the inner diameter of the 18" wheel is only around 1/4" With the M4 Blue Brembos, they have cast in '370/340' on back of caliper - these calipers can be used with either size front rotor. BUT, the calipers are different than the variation that has cast in '340' ONLY, as the mounting ears of the 370/340 calipers are extended to move the caliper out radially from wheel center to accommodate the bigger 370mm rotors

Awesome. Looks like I am going to get the 335 brakes and use that as my upgraded 'BBK' over stock. I also have the 17" 393 rims.

Well I went and did it now... Just purchased a set of these Nankangs NS2R.
225/45r17. That's about 4% shorter ratio than stock, so cool for acceleration. 420€ mounted and balanced for the whole set. I can scarcely believe it. These will be exclusively for track use. They will be mounted on the rims on monday. I'm off in search of a trackday now. |
