3D Number Plates
I'm just about to order up some new number plates,
and as it's a bit of a trip to my preferred dealer (150 mile round trip). I'm just going to order them online to avoid having the local garage's logo and name under my reg. as they print the legal details smaller and to the right of the plate. (number1plates) I was just about to order them when i saw the text alternative's standard black, 3D,and black Gel. I not sure the black gel one's are accepted as fully legal? (plus a bit of a fly trap for cleaning) but am considering the 3D text for a bit of a change. any thoughts...?

Agree with clean lines...no flags!
It's a bit of a minefield for anything over standard plates. The .gov website gives you a list of their approved suppliers. But nearly all of them sell illegal plates as 'legal' And the only ones that get prosecuted are the buyers. The .gov website states 3D are legal. But I've seen posts on a police forum where officers argue over subjective interpretations of what is and isn't legal on plates... If not, why not just say standard plates. no options. done. But the cynic in me says they add ambiguity on purpose to tax... er... I mean fine motorists. |

Ensure you delete the words 'Demon Plates" from the plate configurator on the free text section. (My screw cover is yellow, it just didn't reflect with the camera flash like the plate did) Last edited by sensible; 11-10-2018 at 05:17 PM.. |

I'm not a fan of the plastic 3D look a bit cheap I have run Metal plates for years with no issue in genuine factory German surrounds both on my VW's & E91 (see photos)
but this time round on the F31 I will probably stick with the plastic normal style as think the metals won't suit.

I ordered a set of standard plates from Demon Plates earlier today.
No logo, no flags. I'll be sticking them on with some 3M VHB adhesive pads, And not drilling them. As I think it looks better.

I say go with whatever you like. If the colour, font and spacing is correct, can't see why the cops would bother you.

and if the cops stop you, get up to £1000 fine, 6 points, and an instant MOT fail as well... Can even lose a private reg... Ridiculous really, as long as the number is clear to ANPR. That's the UK for you though, a nation of jobsworths.... Last edited by davethefish; 11-11-2018 at 04:13 PM.. |

Spacing seems to be a bit of a bug bare with plod. Mate got pulled as they thought the gaps were wrong between the first two characters and the digits on some apparently legal plates he got made of the old inter web..
