M Performance BBK Colors
Hey everyone, post pictures of your rides with the M Performance big brake kit. I'm trying to figure out what color would go nicely with my Midnight Blue Metallic 435i. I'm stuck between Red and Yellow. Thanks!

The yellow color is more of a gold. Closer to Austin Yellow for the F8x.

You just need to make sure you clean the hell out of your brakes. But the same for powder coating. And the G2 paint brush sucks so I got a quality one. I did 4 coats on my brakes and to clean them i used 1 bottle of brakekleen per caliper along with a wire brush. I did also take the calipers off to do a proper cleaning. Took me about an hour per caliper to clean. The feel after you do 4 coats feels like a powder coat its on so smoothly and thick. Even after doing many a brake service and scratching them a bit, it hasn’t scratched thru the paint to the silver caliper. Oh i also did fairly light coats to let the paint self level and work for you. Doing heavy coats is a no no, i saw some youtubers try and its terrible. I think its been ~3-4 years now with it and still looks great. Oh and finally i did ceramic coat them so they have an even more glass like finish and sheen. |

Thanks for the compliment!
To be fair, I have a bit of experience with rattle cans, From my youth spent painting model cars and planes, and can tell when it has flashed enough to coat again and when I’ve waited too long and have to tack coat again. That’s 2 base coats of VHT caliper silver, About 4-5 color “anodized look” coats To get the color that deep, and 4 coats of Caliper clear. (I do only 2-3 color coats then clear twice, then color again) So one can silver , two cans color, two cans clear would be needed for all 4, one can color would be enough if it weren’t a translucent color coat like I am doing. If I had bought enough cans to begin with I would be installing them right now. One tip is to get one of those trigger handles, they are like $6 at hobby lobby. Thought they were a gimmick but they really do help you make smooth even passes. I don’t know but you might salvage your g2 by baking them hard in the oven and then clearing them? Before they can get dirty? They sure didn’t “self level” very well, did they?

Yeh I think since I did light coats it helped it self level. I did originally start by hanging the calipers in my wheel well but noticed it was pooling a bit. So I took em off and stripped the paint again. Then redid it on a table with light coats. I think the ceramic coat helped too. It took me ~6 hrs for 2 days 12hrs total to get it nice. They’re of course dirty now so yeah haha.
I also did apply in a 90F ish garage maybe the heat helped it level. But I think long term the thickness will help against chips etc I think if ur gonna spend $500 or so to powder coat (quoted in sf, ca) paying like $500 more for a used brembo kit would be better |

Here is my EB with the "yellow". Its more like the Phoenix Yellow found on the E46 M3's.

I powder coated mine using Prismatic Powder's 'Illusion Red' with a light sprinkle of 'Striker Orange', finished off with their 'Clear Vision'. Absolutely love the result.
In direct sunlight the calipers look redish-orange, but when shaded they are a deep metallic red. |

You have to take bumper off.
Taking the bumper off isn’t nearly as hard as it would seem to be. Only took me about 30 minutes to get it off
